Qué harás

! This is a COVID proof experience - sanitizing gel will be provided. Masks mandatory !

Together, we'll explore one of the most vibrant and history rich neighborhoods in Paris, visiting bakeries, forgotten synagogues, and the oldest jewish school in Paris.
Using some rare archives, we will travel through history, from the 19th Century, when the neighbourhood was a yiddish speaking hub for recent immigrants, through World War II, and up to today.

Our tour will take us inside the secrets of the "Pletzl" - to a community café for the last jewish residents of the neighbourhood, through a garden commemorating the jewish community of the 1930's, and to places even weathered parisians have never seen.
We will encounter destinies of refugees, of religious men, of jews who died to liberate France from german occupation, but also of unknown heroes who helped hide jews during the war.

After having gone to the same yiddish summer camp many years ago, Sophie and Emmanuel have decided to dedicate their time to exploring and understanding the streets of Paris. The rest of the time, Emmanuel makes documentaries, and Sophie goes back and forth between the U.S. and France. We still have not agreed which is the best jewish bakery on "Rue des Rosiers"!

Sophie’s tour through the Marais was very interesting and insightful. This area of Paris has always been a favorite for me, but now I have a deeper and richer understanding of the area. Don’t miss this tour, she is a warm and lovely woman.

This is a brilliant tour that I highly recommend. Our guide was Sophie who is very knowledgeble of the area and has wonderful stories about the people who lived in the area. She had photos and read us letters relating to the Shoah. Best was the secret synagogue that survived the war. Ah you have to go on the tour to hear the story and see it. Sophie many thanks.

Sophie was our guide and she is absolutely amazing! She has so much knowledge of the area and history. She not only told us the stories of the area, but also told us her personal family’s inspirational story. And completely not related to the tour, she was so kind to help me with an issue with my airline in getting ahold of them when my phone wouldn’t call a local number. I am forever grateful for her help and for a wonderful experience in Paris! I will be booking this tour again when I am back in Paris with some friends.

The tour about Jewish life in the Marais was one of a kind. Sometimes you have the luck to have a real storyteller and Sophie was. Sophie tells stories to make the area vivid and understandable. We loved the hidden gems we visited and with the stories it was a real immersive experience. Thanks Sophie!

Sophie combines academic knowledge with a familiar historical perspective. The result is a deep vision of the Le Marais and Jews historical trajectory. Strongly recomended.
