Discover immigrant history and the best secret places to eat

The first Chinese immigrants settled at Dundas & Elizabeth streets; the Ward. This historic area was teeming with immigrants, and their cultures contributed to the multicultural fabric of Toronto today. On our walk, we will explore those early sites, which are now populated by new waves of Asian influences, bringing innovative foods, as well as giving homage to the pioneers.

We will walk on Dundas Street & explore the 2nd & 3rd wave immigrants along Spadina Ave/Kensington Market.

Local & Authentic we will dine (full meals) 7 + types of savory & sweet foods, including b-b-que meats,Lamian- hand pulled noodles, regional dishes and innovative side dishes: traditional desserts such as mochi, creamy egg tarts, red bean. Extras-Plus sampling Japanese & Vietnamese street foods en-route. NOTE: We do authentic dishes, not snack foods as other tours.

You'll discover how traditional Chinese food shaped our tastes beyond Americanized Chinese Food such as sweet and sour chicken balls—into a fusion of cuisines.

I promise you will not go away hungry- read reviews. Don't eat breakfast!

Bonus at the end, those interested can come on a shopping tour of local food market/chinese herbalist for insider experience & create your own inspired dishes.

I am a chef, food lover & tea sommelier who grew up in Toronto's original Chinatown in my grandfather's rooming house, where we ate from-farm-to-table, including raising live chickens in the basement. I am a world traveler- from Afghanistan to the Yucatan- using inspirations from my Canadian-Chinese roots, I fuse the flavors of both East and West in my culinary adventures. I have been featured at supper clubs & chef talks.I have written a series of e-cookbooks and a magazine celebrating tea and culinary foods- theloveofteamag.com

Donde estarás

We will meet at the Toronto Coach Terminal, at the heart of the original Ward district. We will walk towards University Avenue on Dundas Street—the site of the original Chinatown in the 1880s, which was relocated in the 1960s for the construction of the new City Hall. At the start of our outing, we will pick up egg custard tarts to fuel our taste buds for our secret tastings. Who says dessert needs to be enjoyed last?

This was our first Airbnb experience, and we had no idea what to expect. Carol was amazing and took us on a tour of Chinatown. We ate delicious Chinese BBQ and hand pulled noodles. Carol also ordered us dishes that we mentioned liking. I really felt a connection with Carol. She really has a passion for telling the history of Toronto’s Chinatown.

Our family had a very enjoyable time learning about Toronto's Chinatown history and Carol's knowledge of the area was excellent. We discovered a number of Chinatown restaurants that we would definitely return to again. It was great to learn more about our own city.

This was a unique and culturally experience. It is also an experience that I would consider (as the host) revamping should the weather not be cooperative or, as the person participating in the experience, I would check in advance to make sure that the weather is agreeable before signing up, as so much of this experience is spent outdoors.

Carol was extremely thoughtful with the restaurants she chose, and the added history was much appreciated. Having always lived in Ontario, it was a surprise to learn much more about Toronto. My girlfriend and I had some of the cuisine before, even still, highly recommend if you want to try new foods. Carol was also flexible in making stops or detours based on personal requests, which made the experience more special. Also, she's not kidding about the amount of food. Don't eat breakfast, come hungry!
