Explore Berlin with a landscape-engineer

Join me, landscape-engineer and passionate strollologist, for an experience with a difference. Strollology is the science of strolling and a field of study interested in how humans perceive and use landscapes.
While we explore one of Berlin’s most fascinating areas, I’ll help you appreciate urban environments in a whole new way.

As we walk the sides of the River Spree in a place once on the border between East and West Germany, I’ll illuminate the contrasts between the two sides, show you hidden spots, fill you in on local history and explain the typologies of different styles of city-landscapes.

Finally, we’ll complete our experience with a small chat and open the discussion about landscape-design and city-planning and reflect about how the urban planning of this part of Berlin and its vibrant, rebellious and creative character go hand in hand, while we share a drink together in a beautiful restaurant down by the waterline.

My name is Daniel and I’m a landscape-planning engineer, educated at Berlin’s Technical University. I’ve been in love with the city since I arrived here 14 years ago. It’s truly unique and a brilliant example of what a city can be, and also could be. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and insights with you.

Donde estarás

Our journey will take us through Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain via the Oberbaumbrücke, in a part of the city that has radically evolved since the fall of the Wall. This urban space, around an open body of water, has a lot of change cast in the landscape!
After our 2.5 h walk, we settle down in the restaurant Freischwimmer to have drink and a reflective discussion about landscape- and city-design, to become experts about the spaces we were in!

That's one of a kind experience. Truly interesting views, takes and perspectives upon a precise subject. Daniel is also open and interested in what you can feel and bring to the table.

Daniel is an excellent tour guide, his tour is on a topic that is different to most walking tours but you get a real sense of how Berlin should be if it were to follow what made it a great city. He shows you the bad and the good aspects of the Berlin Landscape. Don’t be afraid of the topic, Daniel explains it really well and it is easy to understand. The bar at the end is amazing, a hidden gem.

Daniel is a passionate urban activist and landscape architect. He wants to make city spaces that are accessible to all, that are built on a human scale, and that provide people a connection to nature. It’s really interesting to hear him talk about spaces that do this and spaces that fail.

I recommend Daniel's tour to anyone that is curious. I'm an architect for a decade now and I learnt a great deal! He presents a nice mix of expert knowledge, history, and personal stories and remarks that will keep you interested and spark discussions. The group was also nice to meet.

This is a very unique walking tour, so it is difficult to "review". I would have preferred more facts (and not opinions) and generally more information (and not feelings). For myself, for my friends, and for people like me, this tour is not really suitable. However, it is incredibly authentic and led by someone with clear passion for other people and for the public spaces that they share. Daniel is comfortable with guests having a wide variety of perspectives and different opinions to his, and that is a great attitude that helps with the mix of people. I think most AirBnB travelers would like this kind of experience, so I would say don't hesitate to try it just because it wasn't "my cup of tea".

It is a very debatable subject, some may not agree with my personal opinions and that's great because discussion leads to progress for all participants.
