Qué harás

You will board the 100% solar powered (off the grid!) tour boat Solaris, which was built at the Hudson River Maritime Museum by our talented shipwrights, to take a ride to the historic Rondout Lighthouse. The boat ride passes wetland areas full of birds (can you spot a bald eagle?) and a sunken barge graveyard, as well as the base of a previous lighthouse (1867). Completed in 1915, the Rondout Lighthouse is accessible only by boat and may not be toured except through the Hudson River Maritime Museum. You will tour the interior of this historic structure with our experienced guides, including the observation deck of the light tower, where you can enjoy stunning views of the Hudson River. Learn about the structure itself, the need for lighthouses on the Hudson River, and the lives of its keepers, including woman lighthouse keeper Catherine Murdock, who served as keeper of the Rondout Lighthouse for 50 years. Upon conclusion of the tour, you will return to the Solaris for a ride back up Rondout Creek to arrive at the Hudson River Maritime Museum docks. At that point, you are welcome to tour the museum on your own (admission included with your lighthouse ticket), follow our interpretive signs along our scenic waterfront promenade, or explore the Historic Rondout Waterfront District, full of wonderful restaurants and fascinating shops, all within easy walking distance of the museum.

Really cool tour, loved the solar boat, and the lighthouse was not only a cool structure with a great view, but it had a very interesting history that was well explained by our Tour Guide. I would recommend this tour!

Fun outting with family. Great experience being on a solar boat. Able to see inside a historic lighthouse... Just watch out for all the spiders!

This tour exceeded our expectations. Our guide, Beverly, was personable and very knowledgeable. She shared information of factual interest, and provided great stories that brought the lighthouse keepers to life! The solar boat experience was a real treat. The crew was outstanding and diligent about our safety throughout the round-trip excursion to the lighthouse. We highly recommend this tour, and also that you take time to explore the Maritime Museum before or after the lighthouse—it is choc-full of amazing paraphernalia leftover from the maritime history of the area.

This was great! A chance to be on the water, and see a small slice of history. A brief trip, but a lovely part of the day. Knowledgeable and committed guides. We weren’t on the solar boat, because it was away, but we heard about the innovative technology that has gone into developing it. So glad we did it!

The boat we booked was elsewhere and we were placed on a different boat at a later time but never told. We still had a lovely time.

Although the solar boat was not available on the day of my experience, the crew provided great stories and insight during the pontoon ride and while at the lighthouse. I thoroughly enjoyed and was enlightened learning about the lives of lighthouse keepers. The crew was lively, friendly and well informed. It was a good value and time well spent. I have recommended it to some of the locals.
