"Wow, what can I say! 10 of us spent a wonderful weekend in this beautiful house. The house was so very well equipped for us all, especially the children. Thanks for an amazing weekend and we can’t wait to re-book."

"Thank you for sharing your beautiful home, we had the most wonderful week. The house was perfect in the perfect location. Many lovely memories made. Thank you."

"Just a quick note to say thank you very much for letting us stay at your home. It was perfect for our family holiday - spacious common areas where we can gather, good sound-proofing for the light sleepers, amazing views, fully equipped kitchen and close to the town centre. I will definitely recommend it to my friends and families."

"Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your lovely home. We had a wonderful holiday with our family. It was a wonderful opportunity for us all to be together and we feel very privileged to have had such an amazing place to stay. There was everything we needed and more. We really cannot thank you enough."

"We loved the house and really enjoyed our stay - helped by the wonderful weather which was perfect for coastal walks. It was the perfect place to return to after a long hike! The welcome basket was a lovely extra touch which we really appreciated. We'd love to return next year."

"We all had a terrific time in your smashing house. So many rooms, you could almost get lost! The close proximity was certainly a bonus, especially the lullaby of the sound of waves on the beach at night! We would love to return."

However, once out of the front door, the promenade is flat, and you can have a coffee at the beach cafe a few steps away. The trackless train up and down the promenade is ideal for grandparents, running from SeaWorld to the harbour.

- In shed you will find beach buckets and spades, large tarpaulin for sandy beach, sun parasols, tennis rackets and balls ( 4 courts 400m away, free most of year, £5 / hour high season), badminton rackets, cricket set, a few golf clubs (driving range, full golf course and a mini-course just over a mile away).

- As a hotel, it is illegal to smoke anywhere on the premises. Guests will be charged £100 for every room that has to be cleaned if contaminated by smoke.

- We charge a cleaning fee of £185 which is less than it actually costs us per letting - our laundry bill alone for all bedrooms is usually £75, and this is a large house to keep spotlessly clean.

Mainly very soft yellow sand below High Water line, pebbles and some sand above. If you walk towards the harbour, the beach widens to large expanse of very soft, fine, yellow sand. Weymouth is a very traditional seaside resort, with donkey rides, fairground rides, Punch and Judy shows and many other entertainments. The sea water is shallow, very sheltered from prevailing Westerly winds and often quite calm. The water can be surprisingly warm on a hot day. When the tide is low, you can be 80-100 metres from the beach and still within an adult's depth.

Lifeguards on large stretches of beach in high season, and in the pedalo / sea canoe hiring area there is often a safety boat most days. Deck chairs available for hire and also beach huts and paddle boards.

Many weekends of the year there are special events in Weymouth ranging from food festivals to folk dancing, to New Year's eve when 25,000 people all in fancy dress see New Year with spectacular fireworks and sound stages.

Sailing and other water-sports

Weymouth hosted the 2012 Olympics Sailing Events - with a huge marina, as well as a second one in Portland Harbour, where UK's National Sailing Centre is located, in a huge enclosed area of sea. You can hire sailing dinghies of various types, or go on a course. Or you can enjoy watching others racing around the bay. From October to April you may see Olympic standard kite surfers doing spectacular jumps across waves right outside the front door. You can hire your own windsurfing and kite surfing equipment in Portland Harbour / take lessons.

Weymouth Harbour is a very popular stopping point for yachts about to cross the English Channel to Cherbourg, Channel Islands, the Mediterranean or the Carribean.

Weymouth Golf Course is famous and a great course to play on.

SeaLife centre - trackless "DOTTO" train runs right past our house (great child entertainment to wave as it goes by) or a short walk
Nature reserve - less than a mile along the beach
Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre
Sand World - sculptures in Weymouth
Northe Fort at entrance to Weymouth harbour - huge, fascinating museum of area and military history
Marine aquarium, mini golf, butterfly house and so on - just over half a mile up the beach
Chesil beach – spectactular natural feature – site of World War II training for D-Day landings – museum
Jurassic Coast – huge number of fossils discovered, new ones appear every week as ancient cliffs crumble
Dorchester – ancient market town
Local theatre - by harbour with shows running most of the year
Tank museum
Portland Bill lighthouse and visitor centre
CastleTown D Day Centre
Dorset Country Museum
Wonderful fishing off the harbour walls, Portland Bill or Chesil Beach

Sheila and I really love the sea and sailing, being right on the water, which I find inspiring as a book writer. This is our main home but we also love travelling, and are delighted to have up to 14 guests enjoy the entire hotel, on an exclusive basis including the "owners accommodation" when we are not there. We are in our early 60s with four married children and 5 grandchildren.
