I have been hosting for over 3 years now and have met some fascinating people along the way. I find everyone has an interesting story if your willing to listen. I tend to treat guests like distant cousins coming to stay- happy to chat and help them plan their NYC visit while giving them space to do their own thing.

I do give a lot of information in this listing, but that is because I prefer lots of information when I am traveling and picking an airbnb host. Picking the right host, especially when renting a room in their home is like picking a roomate. It can make or break the entire trip! So please read the information below and the house rules. I do my best to be honest in describing the space and how I host.

DETAILS:
BREAKFAST - Due to the current Covid-19 virus situation, I am not providing breakfast for guests. I will still offer coffee or tea and some fruit to get your day going.

BEDROOM: The room is on the small side but normal for this area of NYC. The door to the bedroom is a custom-made floor to ceiling sliding barn door without a lock. The bedroom has a comfortable queen pillow-top mattress bed with 4 pillows. There is a full-length mirror, a wall heater and an window air conditioner, both which which you control the temperature. Half the closet and the entire dresser is available for you. In the dresser there is an extra blanket, umbrellas, a fan and an iron.

BATHROOM - The bathroom is clean and bright. I keep a hair dryer for my guests to use, as well as shampoo, conditioner and soap. I provide washcloths, a hand towel and bath towels for my guests. I do not provide any personal hygiene items such as: toothbrushes, deodorant or hair brushes. I will clean the bathroom daily and will keep a disinfectant in the bathroom for guest to use if they feel it is needed.

The bathroom, which we share, is attached to the bedroom and I will need to go through the bedroom to access it. I do not access it at night and normally will wait until guests are out for the day before entering. I have only accessed the bathroom at night once in 3 years. I do my best not to access the bathroom while my guests are in the bedroom so as not to infringe on their privacy. Most guests will never see me in the room their entire stay after the initial "welcome tour".

THREE GUESTS IN THE ROOM: Three adult guests in the space is only advised if money savings is of major importance as the room is small. If there is a third person booked, I have a narrow twin folding bed which past guests have said is comfortable. It will fit in the room but when open it makes movement around the room difficult. It will block the bedroom door but it does not block the bathroom. Many groups have stayed with three in the room successfully but all spent their time exploring the city during the day and not hanging in the room. If you choose to book for three despite this warning, please do not penalize me about the small room in the review as I am being honest about it upfront.

CHECK-IN: The check-in window is between 4 PM and 8 PM, but it is rarely an issue if you need to check-in later so just let me know when booking. I ask all guests for an expected arrival time about a week before your stay so I can plan my day.

EARLY CHECK-IN OR LATE CHECK-OUT: I am usually booked so I cannot offer early check-in or late check-out to guests as I need the time between guests to get the room ready.

CHILDREN: I love children and generally they like me. But my apartment is small and may not be best for babies who need absolute quiet to nap during the day. My place is also not baby-proof for toddlers. I do enjoy children and am willing to babysit if needed. I have had many successful stays with children but you know your child's needs the best. Please feel free to ask me any questions you need to make your decision to book.

KITCHEN - You are welcome to use the kitchen for storing refrigerated items and to heat up something in the microwave/stovetop. I do sleep and live in the living-room/kitchen area. While this area is open to guests during the day, it is where I do sleep so it is my bedroom too. I close the curtain from 8PM to 8AM so I can have privacy. If you need access during that time, just knock.

HOLDING LUGGAGE: I can not guarantee availability to take luggage early or hold it after check-out. As I am sure you understand, I have my own commitments that take me out of the apartment during the day. You can ask a few days before your stay if you need to drop off luggage early. There are luggage service companies like LuggageHero or BagsBnb which have locations near my home, that can hold your luggage if I am not able.

LATE NIGHTS: I do not care how late my guests stay out. I do request they respect my neighbors by being quiet in the halls so as not to disturb them. But as my apartment is small, I cannot guarantee absolute quiet if you decide to sleep all day after a night out. I will do my best to be quiet but eventually I will have to work, which does require me to be on the phone which may wake you up.

SLEEPING ALL DAY: Continuation of Late Nights - If staying out all night and sleeping to mid-afternoon EVERY day is your idea of a fun vacation, that is great. But I may not be the best airbnb option for you. I say this because I want my guests to have a great trip and recognize I may not be the best fit for all. I can accommodate a late sleep once during a stay but not everyday.

Acceso de los huéspedes
You will have access to the whole apartment during the day from 8 AM - 8 PM. The Living Room/Kitchen access is restricted between 8 PM-8 AM, as this is where I sleep.

Otros aspectos a destacar
1. I request that the primary booking guest have their gov ID verified by Airbnb by the time of their stay. If it is not verified, I may request to see your ID at check-in and make a copy in case of an emergency.

2. There is construction in the lot next to my building. It has been relatively quiet but I cannot promise they will not startup again. When active, they normally work from 8AM-4PM. I do work from home and I have not found it disruptive at all.

3. If staying out all night and sleeping to mid-afternoon every day is your idea of a great vacation, I may not be the best choice of places to stay. I work from home and will not guarantee I can remain quiet past 10AM ever day, including the weekend. If it happens once, it is not a problem.

4. The Building is a walk-up and there are 2 flights of stairs to my apartment. You need to be able to carry your luggage yourself.

The East Village and Lower East Side neighborhoods never fails to keep the excitement going long after other neighborhoods hit the pillow. Join the foodies, dive bar enthusiasts, and vintage-hunters to the east end of Manhattan, where head-turning street style is the norm. Are you considered too avant-garde at home? In the East Village you will fit right in and be celebrated.

THE NEIGHBORS
An eclectic mix of NYC newcomers and long-time residents. This is an racially and economically mixed area. The african-american finance guy shares his morning with a puerto rican feminist artist at the hip spot that is owned by a jewish lesbian couple.

WHAT TO EXPECT
A lively neighborhood with an adventurous spirit that defines downtown living. Bargain shopping is still possible here with our many vintage and consignment stores. There is also a plethora of innovative designers with shops in the area. Young chefs are providing innovative foodie experiences and the cocktail is an art form next to traditional old school ethnic food and dive bars with attitude. Small quiet community parks still abound.

THE LIFESTYLE
Quiet during the day and busy at night due to the popular culinary and bar scene. Want to people watch, just pick your cafe or coffee spot.

WHAT NOT TO EXPECT
A quiet, residential area free of street traffic or noise from nightlife outside their doorstep. No big box stores or chain restaurants. Instead this is a small business shopping haven unlike most of Manhattan neighborhoods which can be filled with Gaps and Old Navy.

YOU'LL FALL IN LOVE WITH
The creative, gritty, and independent energy of one of the most iconic neighborhoods in Manhattan that nurtures literature, art and music innovators. Small business owners eager to please and the "You do You" spirit from the residents.
The East Village and Lower East Side neighborhoods never fails to keep the excitement going long after other neighborhoods hit the pillow. Join the foodies, dive bar enthusiasts, and vintage-hunters to the east…

Single woman who loves her hometown! I am a native New Yorker willing to share any tips or ideas for experiencing my hometown. Want to shop? I will send you to the area best suited to your needs. Museums? I will tell you which are actually free. My style of hosting is to treat guests as if a second cousin was coming to stay. Friendly but with a lot of space for you to do your own thing. I am currently not working so I am home a lot but I do my best not to infringe on your privacy. While I am open to all nationalities, races and religions as well as LGBTQ friendly, I am only fluent in English. Sorry the best I can do in other languages is ask "Where is the Bathroom?" in Spanish, Italian, French and Chinese. From that information you can guess where I have traveled in the past! I am a minor political junkie and a lover of Game of Thrones. Both are subjects I can discuss for HOURS!l

Durante tu estadía
I am happy to give you all the guidance you want. I am a native New Yorker and have surprised myself since I started hosting with how much I know about New York City. I can suggest some activities and places to see that are off the beaten path and I can definitely tell you where to shop! I know what museums are free and how to see the Statue of Liberty up close for free. I probably won't be giving you a personal walking tour but I can get you set-up for a great one to take on your own.

If you would prefer minimal interaction, just let me know. I am home a lot but I am very good at just "being" in my own personal space.
