Best things to do in San Francisco

Book Store
“City Lights is THE quintessential San Francisco bookstore. It's not in this neighborhood (unfortunately) but I'd be there all the time if it was. This is the bookstore & publishing house owned by Ferlinghetti, who is celebrating his 100th birthday this year (2019). City Lights was the publisher for the Beat Generation, and continues its tradition of publishing literature in translation, poetry, and political theory. They are one of the most culturally significant stores of any kind in the country, influencing whole movements. If you pass through Chinatown or North Beach, consider making a stop here.”

“This really is a book shop, but they have some fantastic jazz acts there. They put wine out, and ask that you pay with a suggested donation for wine and music. It’s the kind of place where you shouldn’t be talking during the music…people are there to listen. It's a low key, locals experience.”

“This great independent bookstore almost went of out business, but a bunch of like-minded people joined forces to save it and transform it into a co-op. Their new location on 24th Street carries both new and old books, and their art gallery programming, with a focus on local artists, has always been really well respected in the city. They don’t have any set agenda with their art on display, and just like any gallery, they try to mix it up to keep it interesting. Check the events calendar on their website to see what’s up.”

“Arguably the hippest T-shirts in town. Check out their selection of very cool California and San Francisco-themed shirts and hoodies that make great souvenirs and gifts but even the locals wear. Rare! ”

“I wouldn't call this a museum per-say, it's contains two very cool things: 1 - A living Borneo Rainforest, with a lower level that is probably one of the best aquatic areas in North America 2 - Digital Planetarium, and one of the worlds largest. On Thursday nights, they turn the academy into a nightlife with drinks, djs and mingling.”
