Hoxton Street

Welcome to our lovely flat in the heart of Shoreditch, hope you like it as much as we do! We thought we’d share some of our favourite places in and around London, so you can enjoy your stay and live like a local. Let’s start with our street ‘Hoxton Street’ steep in history and typical of an East London borough. It’s even got the market to prove it. You’ll find all sorts of people here from trendy partygoers to true East Londoners, so it means it’s a lively street. Don’t be surprised by the odd drunken chants on Saturday nights it’s part of its charm! On the street you’ll find everything from a pharmacy to vegetables stores to the pound shop (where everything is a pound). There is a market on Saturday where they sell everything you can imagine and make sure you visit the Turkish greengrocer to find all sorts of weird fruit and vegetables you’ve never seen before.
If you are looking for a bit more there is a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

PLACES TO EAT

A great Jewish Deli that makes amazing salt beef bagels with homemade mustard for a snack on the go or a sit-down meal in the evening. This was a great market stall that crowd funded a restaurant with a super trendy crowd.

We’ve got a soft spot for this place which is just opposite our flat, mainly because the two brothers who own and run it are lovely and the food is always on point. Simple but always good.

A super unique restaurant. Hard to describe as the menu always changes but you won’t be disappointed. Tasting menu with a cocktail to go with every course. Gets booked up early so best to reserve.

PLACES TO DRINK

Shoreditch is really the centre for going out in East London. There is no shortage of bars and pubs, some of our favourites... Dalston is also short overground train or bus away and is a real up and coming party place, just follow the crowds!
A real gem next door if you want a classic London pub with great beers; that mixes hipsters with gnarled old locals. The Irish folk jam sessions on a weekend are a must see – usually from about 5pm

THINGS TO DO

There is so much to do in our area but here are a few of our favourite things to do...
A short walk away for some of London’s best flowers, worth the Sunday trip on its own to see proper cockneys in Hawaiian shirts shouting about flowers! There a great traditional pub round the corner called Marksman Pub, perfect if you want to try a traditional roast!

The Towpath cafe is a lovely cafe on the canal near our place, add this address on your google map to go on a nice walk around Regents Canal. Head West along this old industrial transport hub of Victorian times and follow the crowds to Victoria Park – an ex-hidden gem that is as nice as the better-known Hyde Park. Great food market on a Sunday too! You can keep heading down the Tow Path and end up at the Olympic Park – this site of London 2012 and the newest park created in London, a real example of London’s urban regeneration of industrial areas.

About 15-minute walk from Hoxton street, down this historical old Street and see the real history of London’s changing culture and openness to immigration, half way down there is building that has been a Huguenot church, Synagogue and is currently a mosque! Currently, the area is home to the Bangladeshi community who will tempt you into their restaurants with unbelievable deals. If you are looking for a curry head to Tayyabs or Lahore in Whitechapel.

SHOPPING

You'll be surrounded by amazing shops and again here are some of our favourites to look out for...
Redchurch Street has gone from a derelict industrial area to an uber-trendy shopping street that rivals the west end. Favourites are APC, Modern Society and Barber and Parlour.
