A good French restaurant. (It's actually called La Piscine, not sure why it was renamed Apm Lou by the site!) In a sober but chic, bistrot-style décor, they serve classic French dishes - including snails! La Piscine also has a large street-side terrace, making it a nice place to go for a glass of wine.

Translates to "The stepmother who smokes"! I hear all their meals are excellent, but I've only been for brunch (many, many times - Saturdays only, as they're closed Sundays). It's my favorite brunch in Paris. Their extremely thin and crispy french fries are to die for.

This bistrot, located just around the corner from the apartment, is known for being a set in many movies (including Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds). The reason it's so popular with filmmakers is because the decor has not changed in 100 years! The crowd is local and low-key.

This old train station has recently been turned into one of the hippest café/bars in town. Everything at Le Recyclerie is made from recycled objects, giving it lots of charm. Seating is available not just inside the large, sunny building but also outside, with picnic tables nested along the former railroad tracks. There, they've also built a herb garden and a chicken coop.
I recommend their delicious ginger lemonades and bissap juices, which you can order by the pitcher. They also serve nice brunches on the weekend; the menu is always changing.

If you're a beer fan, you must stop by El Tast. All of its beers are microbrews from the Paris region - a scene which has really kicked off in the past couple of years. You can drink there, or buy them to-go. The charming owners will give you good suggestions. Though they're huge fans of the local beer, they're actually from Spain, so they also serve delicious plates of Spanish hams that pair quite well.

This outdoor beer garden in the Saint Ouen flea market is open during the summer only. It's in a lovely courtyard with plenty of space - a rare commodity in Paris, but this is just over the border, in Saint Ouen! On either side of the courtyard, there's an art gallery and a 60s vintage furniture store, nice for browsing in the day. The beer garden has good IPA beers on tap, and apple & pear cider by the bottle. For food, they've got crepes or burgers.

An upscale tiki bar with superb cocktails. Don't be put off by the name (which is left over from its bygone days as a strip club) - this is actually quite a classy joint. The drinks are not cheap, but worth the price - the bartenders are very talented. (Not to mention that the drinks are quite strong).
A good option, for four people or more, is to share the giant cocktails that come in conch shells or model volcanoes.
Last but not least - if you visit Paris on a hot summer day, you'll appreciate the fact that this is one of the very few air-conditioned bars in Paris... Arrive early if you want to secure a seat.
