Sightseeing

Good Harbor Beach is a short 1/2 mile walk from our house. A must is walking to Salt Island at low tide! The water parts at your feet as you walk to and from the island. Be sure to walk back after the tide comes in, as you'll have to swim or wade through knee deep water (depending on the tide). Sunrise is beautiful, and foggy days are incredible as well. Early morning, and late afternoons are favorite times of ours to go.

Long Beach is a short 1/2 mile walk from our house. Take a right from your front door, and stay right past Surfside Subs (yum) and Dairy Maid (a must for local huge portions of ice cream)... It is about a 5 minute walk to get to Long Beach. A favorite place for families and locals to go. Not as crowded as Good Harbor, but just as incredible. Long Beach has a 1/2 mile or so of beach houses, along a fabulous boardwalk to the very end, where you can brave the foot bridge and walk over the most incredible rocks to Cape Hedge, and Pebble Beach. One of our favorite morning and dusk walks. From your front door, to the end of Long Beach boardwalk and back, is around a 1 mile beautiful walk.

A must is to walk along the beautiful sea wall. Start from the beginning, you will pass a few beautiful monuments, and cross a cut bridge. Continue the walk, and take it all the way to the end. You will round up to Stage Fort Park, they have a fabulous playground for kids, a hidden beach, and more.

This historic park is the site of Gloucester’s first settlers in 1623 who set up fishing stages on this land upon arrival. Stage Fort Park is home to Half Moon and Cressy’s beaches, with access to a sand volleyball court, a beautiful new playground, a baseball field, a basketball court, and tennis courts. There are plenty of picnic tables and cooking areas (bring your own grill), a privately owned restaurant that is open to the public, an information center, and restrooms. During the summer season, there are outdoor concerts, fireworks, and storytelling events for children, festivals, farmers markets, and several other events.

A must to visit! One of my favorite places to bring anyone visiting the area for the first time. Fabulous shops and restaurants, super quaint and just lovely to visit. Summer weekends are usually packed. Street meter parking. Wear comfortable shoes, and be prepared to stay a long time... you will get lost and fall in love with Bearskin Neck.
