Visiting the Lost Sea would be a day trip from the cabin, but a tour is very interesting, and is a bit of a hidden gem in this region! It is part of an extensive cave system located in between Sweetwater and Madisonville, Tennessee. It is best known for containing the United States' largest and the world's second largest non-subglacial underground lake, The Lost Sea!

This is a great little hike less than a mile from the Cabin. Go right out of the Cabin, take a sharp left, and two more lefts to the parking lot/overlook. From there, there's an easy 0.9 mile hike to reach the Observation Tower. The Tower sits on the highest point of the Foothills Parkway at an elevation of 2,650 feet. To the west, this tower provides a great view of the Tennessee side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park including Thunderhead, Mt. LeCont, and Gregory's Bald. The view eastward features Blount County including Maryville and Alcoa.

Cómo moverse

Be prepared to lose cell service

Your cell phone won't work in a lot of the areas around the Park, including Cades Cove. Be sure you know where you're going and print out maps if you need to because you may not be able to get an electronic map to come up.

Wildlife

It's true that there really are black bears roaming around, as well as other wildlife like deer and turkeys. Just watch from a distance and please don't feed them.
