Easkey is a quiet rural village located on the North Coast of Sligo where the Easkey River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a favourite stopping place for holidaymakers who want to get away from it all in a magnificent Atlantic setting and on the “Wild Atlantic Way” The river runs through the centre of the village to provide a charming, traditional environment. The salmon run up the river and still provide a good catch during the season. Fortland Fishery near Easkey village is private and offers over 6km of exclusive fishing set in the woodlands of the Fortland Estate. This stretch has over twenty pools and is limited to 12 anglers per day. There are also other first class rivers and lakes nearby. The coastline around Easkey is rugged and rocky. Powerful Atlantic swells provide perfect surfing conditions for surfing Easkey Right and Easkey Left as both are reef breaks suitable for experienced surfers. The estuary is world famous for its surfing and kayaking waves and hosts many international events. Easkey provides an excellent base for visiting the beautiful places around the county of Sligo. There are spectacular panoramic views of mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. The many things to do include walking, cycling, surfing, fishing or just absorbing the surrounding countryside. You can walk along the shore that is abundant with its fossils, rock pools, secret swimming spots and glorious sunsets is a wonderful place to stroll, swim or watch surfers from all over the world take on Easkey’s famous waves or spot Dolphins, Seals and birds. From surfing and golf to seaweed baths or maybe even some leisurely fishing, Sligo has so much to offer you whatever your interests may be.
