Food Scene

Great sandwiches and people watching as it is next to and international language center. Best to order online to avoid lines - arrive before 12:30 to get a table or take it to go and eat at the house.

Fantastic food and service, it's my go-to place for a nice meal with a Santa Barbara local feeling. Make reservations as it is difficult to get a table on the fly. They serve dinner at the bar too.

Paradise Cafe is one of the oldest local Santa Barbara restaurants. Oak grilled fish and choice beef, great salads too. A full bar offers the complete menu, great drinks, and excellent wine options.

This is next to the harbor so you will need to drive. It's worth it, but make reservations online as they get booked quickly. I know Tom, the owner, and he knows his stuff. Great food and service.

Another long-standing Santa Barbara restaurant, these guys serve some mean Italian food and one of the best rib-eye steaks in town. I recommend making reservations in advance.

Great Mexican food...one of the best in town. A great lunch option with bench seating in a funky outdoor eating area. A local favorite so expect lines at peak lunch hour.

About the only live music club in Santa Barbara, the $10 cover is well worth the dance floor and entertainment. Weak is the food and drinks..stick with beer or wine.

Drinks & Nightlife

Casual bar State Street if you want to have a beer and play pool or darts. They have live music on the weekend which has pleasantly surprised me on occasion. One of the more tame State Street bars.

Cozy couches with a fireplace upstairs with a louder scene downstairs in the bar. Something to accommodate almost any mood. Good drinks and friendly bartenders.

A go-to spot for locals since the bartenders have a very heavy hand. Everyone in Santa Barbara ends up at Joe's at some point making for excellent people watching and conversation. Food is marginal.

Brophy's is known for it's great bar, view and atmosphere. It overlooks the harbor including the unloading dock for fishermen. Best restaurant view in town but the food is just average.
