City/town information

Penticton is the closest town to Apex. There are all the usual amentities - big box stores, a downtown, etc. Some highlights: Farmer's market on summer Saturdays --> one of the biggest in Canada. It's really fun. 9-1pm on Main St Local wineries in Summerland and Naramata (there's over 70 between the two regions, and it's no more than an hour to all of them. Beaches in the summer (Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake) - also a 30 minute drive from the Mtn condo. E-bike rentals: In the summers, you can rent e-bikes almost anywhere and go for a long tour of the wineries, Kettle Valley Trails, etc. Winery dining too.

Keremeos is about a half hour west of Apex Mtn. It's a beautiful valley and a separate wine region to the Okanagan. You'll find this town a bit more rustic and a slower pace than Penticton. Some great highlights: Hiking: Keremeos Columns Barcelo Falls For kids: The Grist Mill and Gardens Fruit stands: The Peach King (nothing beats this one) Sanderson Farms (best samosas here) Wineries: Clos Du Soleil Corcelettes Orofino SmilkaVista Scout Other stuff? Walk along the Similkameen River I think there's a coffee shop, but not certain. Dining: Row 14 Crowsnest Vineyards Tree to Me (ooh, there's good coffee here... and breakfast)

Neighbourhoods

Apex Mountain is a Ski resort approx 30km from the nearest town. There's a coffee shop, a bar, a general store (also a liquor store) and a mountain sports/shi shop. Apex is a haven for locals who ski and ride. The terrain is steeper than many other resorts and there's lots of black/doubleblack/backcountry terrain to discover in the winter. Also in the winter there is a 2km skating loop through the forest and a maintained hockey rink for everyone. A very relaxed vibe here, great skiing with lots of powder. Quiet in the summer with loads of hiking and biking - but no amenities.

Sightseeing

In the winter, this is the cross-country ski hub just up the road from Apex resort. Lots of trails and great weather. Nice in the summer too.

Consejos para la ciudad

Cómo moverse

You'll need a car/SUV/truck with good winter tires Oct-Apr.

If you are travelling from Vancouver, Penticton, Kelowna or anywhere, you'll need a vehicle. Rental agencies don't reserve you a ride with snow tires unless you ask - FYI! There is a gas station at the entrance to Green Mtn Road in Penticton (approx 35km from the condo).
Qué empacar

It will snow in May sometimes.

Pack layers and a good puffy coat. Rain is not a big deal up here. You'll also want some good hiking shoes in the summer months. There's lots to explore.
