Sightseeing

The world-famous Cabot Trail is a stunning drive, whether by car, van or motorbike. Along the way, there are gorgeous views, hidden beaches, excellent campsites and hiking trails, plenty of restaurants, and of course the Artisan Trail with local Cape Breton artists, metalworkers, glass artisans, leatherworkers, potters and more.

City/town information

Baddeck is a lovely little town on the shores of the Bras D'Or Lakes. It's famous for being the location of the first manned flight in Canada (the Silver Dart, 1909), and the hometown of Alexander Graham Bell. Apart from that, it's a full service town with a grocery store, pharmacy, post office, banks and many excellent restaurants. Stroll down to the Wharf and along Water Street to see the beautiful yachts that anchor here in summer. Take a trip on the Amoeba, Baddeck's own Caribbean sailing ship. If you're into sailing or boating, visit the Bras D'Or Yacht Club. Take a kayak or paddleboard out onto the lake. For a slice of history, visit the Bell Museum. Or just enjoy a cold one on the patio.

Neighbourhoods

Middle River is not so much a village, more a rural region. It sprawls over a wide expanse of fields and farms, with hidden meadows, swimming holes, waterfalls and rivers. From the Cabot Trail side, to the West Side, up to Gairloch Mountain and across to Big Spruce Organic Brew Pub and Hop Yard, there's a whole lot more to Middle River than Midway Motors.
