Food Scene

My husband jokes that we could keep Fuego in business! They have a ton of unique tacos and the absolute best poblano queso. The tacos are a good Texas size and they also have breakfast tacos! Hear me out, queso can be a breakfast food 😋

Neighborhoods

This is the college bar scene area. Even if you're not into the bar scene, the Dixie Chicken is a famous bar in town to check out! They're open beyond bar hours and serve food as well. They have a rattlesnake you can view while you play pool and carving your name into the tables is encouraged. Tijuana Fries are our favorite food! Grab a pitcher of Shiner or Ziegenbock to share with some friends if you want to feel REALLY Texan.

Downtown Bryan has lots of amazing restaurants, shops, and antiques in historic buildings! There are bars that will have fewer college students than Northgate. Check out the Brauhaus German restaurant or its connected pub style bar Murphy's Law or the Proudest Monkey for great food and drinks. Caffe Capri is our favorite Italian place in town- say hi to Rami the owner who often checks on customers and has put so much love into his business. RX Pizza does trivia and has amazing pizza- try the Mason jar desserts! The first Friday of every month, there will be lots of outdoor vendors, food, and activities for the whole family! If you're in town around a holiday, see if you can make it to a parade. The Christmas parade is our favorite- lots of lit floats and of course, Santa.

Near the university so consider parking. Live music and events on weekends and a candy store! Lots of restaurants and shops as well as a dine and watch movie theater. If you're looking for anywhere fancy to celebrate, Porter's Steakhouse is amazing- they have all sorts of whiskeys and steak and seafood.

Getting Around & Parking

Driving around town is your best bet. If you're traveling and don't have a car, Uber or Lyft are easy options. If you go near the university, be sure go pay attention to parking! You will need to pay for parking and park in visitor lots or visitor garages. If you venture to Northgate or Century Square for entertainment, be sure to pay for parking as well. There are lots and garages at both locations, but there will not be free parking. As someone who tried to beat the system and got towed, save yourself the $300 towing bill and pay the $3-15 for parking :)

Lake Walk Farmers Markets/Night Bazaar

Out at Lake Walk in Bryan near the A&M health science center, there is a Lake, free Saturday morning yoga outdoors, coffee shops, shopping, and a children's museum. They host a farmers market with local artisans, crafters, and small businesses! Sometimes they do one in the evening and other months it is on a Saturday morning so check their social media for specifics. They usually have food trucks with amazing food, cotton candy, and awesome local finds! My friend Lizzie will do henna on you at these as well- all sorts of fun things!

TAMU Sports Games

If you're able to, an Texas Aggie sporting event is a grand old time! Football games get the biggest fanfare, but men's and women's basketball, baseball, and volleyball games are all super fun and family friendly. Everything that is not football will be much more affordable for tickets, but some people have good luck getting football tickets the same day through stubhub or other ticket selling hosting apps/websites.

Howdy

It is really true that here as Aggies, we drink the maroon kool-aid and give in to a LOT of traditions. The most common ones you will hear are a greeting of "Howdy" or "Thanks and gig em" as a thank you and goodbye. I will admit, this is how I send my emails even now that I have not been in school for almost 10 years. It is fun to participate- try saying howdy around town!

Uber/Lyft

If you use Uber or Lyft and are out late, expect prices to surge between midnight and 2am when the bars start to close. Try to leave early or walk beyond the bars to get out of the surge zone. Northgate tends to surge the most and some areas of campus when there are events or sports games.

MSC OPAS

Check out the MSC OPAS event website for lots of events you may enjoy! We love the Brazos Ballet's Nutcracker at Christmas time. We have also seen a traveling ballet from Russian, plays and musicals, as well as comedy shows through MSC OPAS. They usually have family friendly events as well if travelling with kiddos
