Here we list some of our favorite spots - and some guests have recommended.
We enjoy Monte Alban Restaurant for good Mexican food. They don't have a website, but they are also close to the cabin and have a full menu (which you'll find at the cabin) and a bar. This is their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Monte-Alban-Restaurante-Mexicano-of-Hiawassee-514187795321208/

Brasstown Bald is the highest point in Georgia. You can see it from our front porch, especially in winter. The views are amazing from the top. From the parking area, the trail is short but pretty steep. You may also choose a shuttle bus to the top, where you'll find exhibits, a video program, and a 360 degree observation deck. You can see 4 states from the top. There's also a nice little gift shop. You'll find more info here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/georgia/brasstown-bald http://cfaia.org/brasstown-bald-recreation-area-visitor-centers-in-georgia/

Nice hiking and mountain bike trails, nice lake views. Trails vary from 0.7 miles to 3.1 miles in length, maps with trail information available at the Towns County Chamber. From Hiawassee: Take a right at the end of Kanuga St, then another quick right onto GA75 North to the NC-GA state line, where it turns into NC175. Proceed 1.5 miles and turn left onto SR1155, Jack Rabbit Rd. It is a little over 5 miles from the cabin. We have a friend who is a marathon runner and she enjoyed running here. I'm definitely not a marathon runner and I enjoyed hiking here - there's also a nice picnic area on the lake.

Beautiful and popular double falls near Helen and Unicoi State Park. From the website: "The hike is a relatively easy one, and though the outbound trek is mostly uphill, the trail is paved and just under a half mile. The trail is kid-friendly, stroller-friendly and dog-friendly. And while the twin waterfalls are clearly the main attraction, the trail itself is a beautiful one. The trail climbs to Anna Ruby Falls alongside a waterfall-filled creek, catching views of the tumbling, spilling and splashing creek through the boulder-filled forest. 25 miles from the cabin, and near Helen (day trip!) https://www.atlantatrails.com/hiking-trails/anna-ruby-falls-trail/

One of our favorite spots! A nice little white sand beach with gorgeous mountain views. It's free, and in addition to the beach there are picnic areas, a nice playground, and swings where kids or adults can look out over the lake. There's a concession stand in the summer. About 2 miles from the cabin, and right across from the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. More info here: http://www.townscountyga.org/beach.html

The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds are just 2 miles from the cabin. Right on the lake, with beautiful lake and mountain views, it's one of our favorite places. It has a boat ramp with large parking lot and picnic areas. The fair itself is 9 days in July , but there are festivals and activities throughout the year. The Fall Festival is Oct. 13-21 this year. Anderson Music Hall is on the grounds and has hosted many music legends over the years. Check out their website for more details and performance dates: http://www.georgiamountainfairgrounds.com/

Sightseeing

You can reach Bell Mountain from a newly paved, but pretty steep road - or you can hike there from our cabin. There is not a marked trail, but if you keep walking on our road, you'll see trails that will take you to Bell Mountain. Once you are there, the views are spectacular! Gorgeous views of the lake and mountains. If you drive, it's about 4.4 miles, if you hike it's around 3 to the top.
