Parks & Nature

This is a fantastic park to go for a walk with beautiful views of the harbour. It is home to the memorial for the Halifax Explosion and has a playground, tennis courts and lots of green space. It is also a short walk from the Hydrostone Market so if you want to grab a coffee any lay on the grass it is fantastic for that. Despite being right in the middle of the Hydrostone it is up on a hill and surrounded by trees which gives it a secluded feel.

Point Pleasant Park is a gem of Halifax. It's pretty easy to get to by bus and car. The trails are very well maintained. There are so many amazing picnic spots that you'd never run out of new places to visit. And you can often find wild blueberries in the summer! I love the access to the ocean from the park - it's so nice to be able to sit on the rocks and watch the boats come in and out during the summer. There are historical sites throughout the park, though they could use a bit more signage. It makes for nice picnic scenery though. And don't forget to check out Shakespeare by the Sea if you like theatre!

Sightseeing

The drive out here from Halifax is under an hour, so it's a nice little morning or afternoon excursion to take while you're visiting Nova Scotia. I personally would recommend the late afternoon, morning could be foggy, but it's a beautiful any time of day. And while parking at the lighthouse is plentiful, it can fill up quickly. Also, be sure to bring an extra layer of clothing, because that sea breeze is no joke!

Everything Else

The town overlooks island Mahone Bay, and is a sailor’s paradise. Inscrutable weather patterns, with fog and high winds, and seasonal tides make the yacht racing interesting and competitive, bringing boats in from around North America to compete in the mid-August Race Week. When the summer weather is over — usually around Labour Day in September — there follows a glorious cool month with plenty of sunshine and steady winds. Then there is time to recover and think of the eventful days behind you.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site – with its narrow streets and unique architecture – is also the home port of Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador, the Bluenose II. The graceful ship is a replica of the original fishing boat that found fame as a racing schooner. Wander Old Town Lunenburg’s distinctive waterfront with its colourful buildings and listen for salty tales of seafaring and rum-running. Discover what life is like on the open ocean when you visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic on the Lunenburg waterfront.

Located along Nova Scotia’s Bay of Fundy, the Annapolis Valley spans from Digby to Windsor and boasts some of the best soils and climatic conditions in eastern Canada. The region is recognized as the 3rd most important fruit growing area in Canada, and is noted for its high tides, orchards and vineyards. The area is also rich in history. Some 400 years ago, early settlers established their forts, farms and fishing villages along the coast and in the Annapolis Valley. Nova Scotia is gaining recognition in Canada and around the world for high quality wines. Because the success of a vineyard is closely linked to location, and because climate plays such an important role in grape production.
