Food Scene

Quality well presented and served local food, friendly staff, pleasant terrace and cozy indoor restaurant. One of the best restaurants in the area on our opinion. Worth a visit! Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

One of our favorite restaurants in the area. Modern design but good traditional food cooked in a kitchen which is open to the restaurant. Run by a Swedish local celebrity chef – it deserves its Michelin star. Not cheap but worth it.

Sightseeing

Cordes-sur-Ciel is a famous medieval hilltop town dating from the 14th century however the market takes place every Saturday morning in “new” Cordes at the bottom of the hill – you can’t miss it. It is ideal for all your local produce.

About 30 minutes drive from Gite Solterre but definitely worth visiting on a Sunday morning (try to get there at least before noon). It is located throughout the picturesque town centre, and walking around it takes at least an hour without stopping to buy anything. The 2001 wartime drama “Charlotte Grey” with Cate Blanchett was almost entirely filmed on those steets. Beautiful, a bit touristy but still quintessentially French market where you’ll find the best cheese, fruit, fresh baked bread, vegetables, wine, meat and fish - and a huge range of non-food items as well.

Essentials

At some point it was the main market in the area but now with the appearance of supermarkets it is much smaller. But good for fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, bread etc mingle with baskets, toys, ironmongery, clothing, and other essentials of life. It takes over a large area of the town and is well worth a wander, but get there early, as it all packs up by lunchtime.
