My favourite dining places ❤️

I have owned properties in Margate for 15 years and have seen it slowly spring to life to finally become the vibrant and lively Seaside resort that it used to be many years ago. I have a complete manual of what to do and where to go and where to dine in the Apartment in an A5 binder but I will name a few of my favourite places here. Margate is a town on England’s southeast coast. It's known for its sandy beach. Near the Harbour Arm stone pier, the modern Turner Contemporary art gallery has rotating exhibitions. Dreamland Margate is an amusement park with vintage rides. Millions of seashells decorate the Shell Grotto’s underground passages as do the Caves in Margate, recently reopening after many years. So many little eclectic shops and restaurants now and the festivals and events now are growing throughout the year to really make the place vibrant.
In a perfect position, right near the Old Town and next to the Sea Front, Angelas is the place to go if you like fish! A relaxed and informal compact dining space, reasonably priced and sustainable food. Angela’s philosophy is an uncomplicated one. We aim to serve delicious, ethically sourced, sustainable seafood, alongside simple, seasonal vegetable-based dishes. 'We will always endeavour to be sustainable, both in our ingredients and our everyday practices, and work with the local community to specifically reduce the amount of waste we produce that might otherwise end up in landfill. We have partnered with the wonderful Windmill Community Gardens in Margate to turn our food waste directly into compost – in our own composting machine – to enable them to produce more of our raw and organic ingredients....closing the loop. We will always consider our people and our planet first, working directly with growers, fishermen and suppliers who understand how to make the most of their produce and at the same time minimise the impact on our environment.'

I have seen the owner Dev Patel flourish from a one establishment owner to now three! His food is amazing! It has the most delicate of Indian spicing without being 'Indian'... No chicken Tika Masala here, it is high quality, has eye appeal and also offers a great Vegan and Vegetarian options. He says We support local suppliers, farmers and food traders. Special focus is given to aesthetic and style in the presentation of our dishes making dining at the Ambrette into a sensual experience. We promote healthy eating in local schools. We encourage and nurture leadership in our team'. Lunchtime is very very well priced at around £12 which is amazing considering they have just moved to the old 'Hoy' pub (opposite the Turner Centre) so not only great food, a fantastic place to stop for lunch after a cultural visit.

I love Mullins more so at lunchtime. It's a husband and wife team and it's really great food with a Caribbean twist. Easy to get to, right in the Old Town and with a great atmosphere, I definitely like to take my friends there when I am visiting.

Mustafa has recently taken on this place and its great. I'm fussy about good clean oil but no fears here, his food is good and it's only a few doors to the right from the front of the building, pick up some chips and mosey on down to the beach for a walk around if weather permits.

Things to see!

Things that I can recommend to you during your stay.
Strokes Adventure Golf is an 18 hole mini golf course set in attractive surroundings which incorporate rockscapes, plants and water features. Overlooking the beautiful Westbrook Bay in Margate, (just opposite the Living room balcony. Turn right from the front, right after Tesco and walk for two minutes! It's on the right). Strokes Adventure Golf is a skill based course with natural hazards that is both challenging and a fun day out for all the family. Strokes Adventure Golf is affiliated to the British Minigolf Association and has hosted the prestigious British Open on 5 occasions (2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013)

The Shell Grotto is an ornate subterranean passageway shell grotto in Margate, Kent. Almost all the surface area of the walls and roof are covered in mosaics created entirely of seashells, totalling about 2,000 square feet of mosaic, or 4.6 million shells. There are tables for children to do some colouring in and it's a short cab ride if you don't fancy walking. I have been a few times and its still very interesting and I can have a coffee and spend a bit of time buying some nice little gifts in the gift shop.

You cannot come to Margate without going to Dreamland Amusement Park!! They have tried so hard to make it the place we all remember when we were children, they are mostly there but sadly our British weather is a killer is an open space like Dreamland. There are some indoor areas and now the Cafe is back, the Picture Theatre and they are bringing some great bands into the place which really must help it pay its staff. The Gorillas were there recently and it was a hit! It also now has an award-winning Halloween scare event in October, I have brought many friends there for that! Address: 49-51, Marine Terrace, Margate CT9 1XJ Opened: 1880 Hours: Open ⋅ Closes 6PM

I think this beach is better than Margate because of its a hidden gem! I have had a Beach Hut here for 10 years and this really became the 'pull' for me to be in this area. There's a Cafe there and the Cheesy Chips are spot on. The tide never completely comes in (unlike Westgate) so you can sit in the sun all day! Just turn right, from the front entrance, then right as Tescos then to the end of the road and walk down the slant or steps.

The Old Market Street Food Place is opposite so time it right so you can have breakfast or lunch there, after your visit. The event changes every six weeks and it's always a nice place to see. Tracy Emmen has had a few events there along with many other brilliant Artists so I definitely recommend a visit. It closes at 5 pm.

A very authentic and retro little area with some good bars, cafes and food available. Isn’t huge but enough for a quick visit or some lunch/afternoon tea step back in time with many small Artisan and Retro/Vintage shops in a Prime position in Margate.

I Love it here as it has over 50 high street stores, cafes and restaurants. Our anchor stores include M&S, Primark, Debenhams and Next. We also have a Vue Cinema, Casino and Bingo venue on site. Parking is ample and free - all day, every day. They are open until 7.30Pm every weekday. Westwood Cross strives to maintain a clean, friendly and safe shopping environment. There are designated disabled and parent and child parking spaces located around the whole of the car park as well as 5 electric car charging points. The car park is under CCTV surveillance and is patrolled by both Euro Car Parks and our own security team.

I just love this little step-back-into-time Cinema. I love it more because it's only a couple of pounds to see a film and they even have a little 12 seater screen! 29 St. Mildreds Rd, Westgate-on-Sea CT8 8RE Phone: 01843 834290.

Just a nice little Parade of shops with a Deli and a restaurant. I like to wander after a visit to the Carlton Cinema.

Access Due to the nature of the Caves, we’re afraid they are not accessible to wheelchair users or to anyone with significant mobility problems. Access is via two sets of stairs, both with handrails, followed by a steep, narrow, low-ceilinged tunnel. Once in the Caves, the floor is uneven and there are steep steps to access certain areas. Assistance dogs are welcome of course, but no other dogs are allowed in the Caves. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the garden. The visitor centre – including shop, café, toilets and community rooms for hire – is widely accessible. We have large-print versions of our exhibition available to download here. We have fiddle kits and ear defenders available for those who may benefit from them. Just ask a member of staff on arrival. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions we haven’t answered, or require any assistance once on site. We are always endeavouring to improve accessibility at the Caves, so please check back before your visit for any updates and see below for our full accessibility statement. We have relaxed openings throughout the year.

I have a beach hut right on the beach here. Its a quieter alternative to the main beach in Margate main sands.
