There are so many wonderfully delicious, diverse, interesting and ethnically authentic restaurants in the neighborhood that it is going to be difficult to list only a few of my favorites. But since I'm sticking to nearly neighborhood restaurants, it might be a bit easier.
This quiet and quaint neighborhood restaurant and bar may be my go to place for a nice meal and be able to have a conversation with friends. It has a nice varied menu from soup and salad to a steak or seafood dinner. My favorite is the lobster roll. It is family owned and operated and waitstaff is knowledgeable and fun.

This Asian restaurant is approximately 5 blocks from The Knickerbocker. It has won numerous "best Thai" in Milwaukee. It is casual and has a small outdoor patio for watching all the activities on Brady Street. The food is very good and prices are reasonable.

They also prepare all of their own baked goods from scratch, made fresh daily. Besides bakery goods, they serve soup, sandwiches, quiche and breakfast dishes.
Again, they are all over the city but the closest ones to the Knickerbocker are located about a mile away.
-The one on 1701 N Lincoln Memorial Drive is .7 miles and across the street from the lake which is a great setting for morning coffee or Thursday night music.
-The other is on 2211 N Prospect Ave (1 mile) which offers entertainment ranging from poetry, music and even a live recorded podcast.
-Another one heading towards downtown is located at 223 E St Paul. This is a smaller one but is in the heart of the Third Ward which offers lots of shopping and activities.

Elsa's is a trendy gastropub serving burgers and martinis. It is a fun and lively venue. It is also located across the street from Cathedral Square where they have Jazz in the Park on Thursday nights throughout the summer.
