Fish on the beach

Located outside the city center bustling with chiringitos (small open beach restaurants) supplied by fishermen's daily catch. I recommend trying "espetos" (sardines) grilled on a wooden boat on the beach.

La Tranca is a local bar filled with Malagueños, and a place to try vermouth, sweet wines and homemade tapas. One of the best bars in Málaga that tourists don’t know about.

Great selection of tasty "tapas" and a place to try a variety of Spanish food if you are new to it. But be aware of the line waiting outside for a table...but totally worth it.

If you want to eat typical fish and seafood tapas from Malaga, with unbeatable prices in the city center! This is not a fancy place, but has great quality and prices. Try the “Adobo” that is fried fish previously marinated in vinegar. The waiters might seem arrogant at first ;) but don't be scared!

Modern and quirky Spanish meals and wine bar. I recommend trying the “Ensalada Rusa” (Russian Salad) which has quite a twist from the classic version that my Spanish "suegra" (mother in law) prepares, but psst...don't tell her! Tastes heavenly.

Yes, yes, yes! The decor is classic Andaluz with its beautiful ceramic tiles and simple table dressing. The food is equally quintessential of Andalusia, plenty of great fresh shellfish, rich deeply flavoured hams and meats. Its located in the area of Soho in Malaga.

While it can get somewhat crowded with tourists, if you are patient or avoid peak times, it's easy to find a perch and soak up the atmosphere…great to try sweet and dry wines from local grapes, vermouths and liqueurs. The old storerooms are a collection of fascinating interconnected spaces, decorated with trailing plants, photos of celebrities and bullfighters.

Very traditional place to eat "churros" with coffee (but very popular with hot chocolate too). One of the oldest establishments for this type of food.

Wine lovers

Please do not leave Malaga without trying a glass of ‘El Pajarete” the sweet wine of Málaga. Founded in 1840 and they say visited by Picasso - isn’t this already enough? Antique wine bar filled with old posters from "Ferias" wine barrels and small seafood tapas.

Sweets & Coffee

Try the "Blanco y Negro" (black&white) iced coffee with either whipped cream or turon (ice cream). A huge choice of traditionally prepared ice creams too.
