Amusement Parks

Great place for an afternoon of fun! Balboa Fun Zone has gift shops, little restaurants, penny arcades, a ferris wheel and a couple of other large rides, plus other attractions (street artist who draws portraits of you for a fee; boat rides, etc.). Beautiful Pacific Ocean and a clean beach to the west, swarms of happy people, some of them experiencing for the very first time the many delights of a tacky, low-tech amusement park with a penny arcade and an excellent place for "street photography" because of opportunities to take photos of the colorful ferris wheel, of tourists sporting colorful tattoos, of kids clutching melting ice cream cones, and so on.

What are Duffy boats? Small electric boats that are so easy to steer, they’re almost like golf carts on the water. They’re designed for small groups to hang out and navigate around the bay at a low speed. Perfect for a sunset happy hour or lunchtime cruise! Duffy boats were invented by Marshall “Duffy” Duffield, when he was a teenager living in Newport Beach. By cobbling a together a golf cart battery and a day boat, the quiet bay cruiser was born. Now, Duffy boats are seen all over Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Long Beach and even other parts of the world. A Duffy ride is easy to pull together. Just make a rental reservation and plan a picnic for your harbor jaunt. You’ll want water, wine and cocktails for sure, and the boat rental places will usually provide ice. For food, anything from Trader Joe’s to a party platter from El Ranchito or Bristol Farms works. Remember to bring plates, cups, napkins and plastic ware. You can connect your smartphone or iPod to the boat for music. Meet your group a few minutes early to check in and load up. You’ll get a rundown of the rules of the water and receive a map of the harbor with geographical and historical landmarks. So relax and get comfortable in the couch and table setting. If it’s chilly, simply pull down the plastic canopies. Newport Harbor is so beautiful, and it’s exciting to see the homes and businesses all along the water. Balboa Island, Lido Isle and the peninsula all look so different when you view them from the bay. And you’ll see a variety of boats from gigantic yachts to dinghies. It’s fun to see the boat names and locations, which are sometimes from exotic places a world away.

Woody's Wharf has a unique waterfront location on Newport Bay that serves seafood & drinks. Guests can dock their boats and have a dockside or waterfront meal. History Established in 1965. The property that is now occupied by Woody's Wharf was owned by Woody Payne, a longtime local fisherman. Until the early 6o's he used the property to store and repair boats from the local fishing fleet. Woody decided to open a small local watering hole where the other fisherman could gather to tell their fishing tales. Woodys Wharf opened in 1965 and was an immediate hit. It's unique waterfront location on Newport Bay drew crowds who wanted to be served food & drink in an atmosphere that included live music. Past patrons at Woody's Wharf have included famous celebrities & athletes such as John Wayne, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Mickey Mantle and Billy Martin. One celebrity enjoyed Woody's Wharf enough to buy the business. Actor and Karate champion Chuck Norris took over Woody's and was able to hire some of the athletes that were training under him at the time. Among the doormen working at Woody's for Chuck Norris included Jean-Claude Van Damme. Today, Woody's is owned by 4 partner

The story of the Cannery covers nearly 90 years of American history. It began in 1921 when the first commercial fish cannery was built along the Rhine channel between 30th Street and Lido Park Drive. The location was, and still is, the hub of commercial fishing boat activity in Newport Beach. The new Cannery Seafood of the Pacific is committed to continuing its promise of delivering the best and freshest seafood, steaks and chops. Ron and his staff are not reinventing the wheel, but with one eye on the Cannery’s rich history and one on the future, they are changing the ride.
