The eighth wonder of the word? This is a must do day trip - taking in the many stops on your way to Milford such as mirror lakes or the roaring chasms. In Milford, book a cruise and see the beautiful scenery and wildlife (seals, dolphins, maybe even a whale). You will need a day for this. Drive yourself or consider booking through Real Journeys or Southern Discoveries.

A moderate walk starting at 'The Divide' shelter (the beginning of the Routeburn Track at the Milford Road end), takes you up to Key Summit over 2.5 hours return. Stunning views into Milford and over to Lake Marion. We have done this with a 6 month old on the shoulders of mum so it isn't too difficult, just enough to get the heart going. 1 Hour drive from Te Anau to the start of the track.

Consejos para la ciudad

Cómo moverse

Walking is best.

Enjoy Te Anau on foot through the main town, take in the shops or enjoy a coffee at one of the various cafes. A stroll along the lake front is amazing on a clear day.
Qué empacar

Jacket is a must.

Te Anau is on the edge of the Southern Alps and in a matter of minutes you can go from bikini weather to jacket weather - the latter is a must to pack.

Stargazing

Make sure you stand out on our front lawn at night time for 10 mins on a clear night. You won't regret it.
