This beautifully restored castle and fortress is set atop a small village in Marvão offers stunning views of the entire area and a glimpse of this area's past. A walking path leading to the castle from the village of Portagem is one of my favorites.

Here at the old train station is Rail Bike Marvão. Along with a small bar and neighboring Train Spot hotel, one can book a ride on the rails between Beira and Castelo de Vide on special bikes. A great adventure for solo travelers, groups, and families. Local guides speak a variety of languages.
