This is a must for kids. This project takes care of the sea turtles who are in the endangered category. The staff was excellent made up of veterinary students who were happy to answer all my questions.

Parks & Nature
This is my favorite beach. However, it is known as a surfer beach and can have waves and rip tides! Be careful if you go in the water. Not appropriate for small children without constant supervision. There is abundant shade all day long!

This is the closest beach, 7 minutes walk. Parking at the beaches near town is paid. The parking "police" closely monitor and you will get a fine if you're not attentive to the time on the ticket. This is a family beach, often crowded, often noisy, but the water is usually safe for kids with a very gradual depth. There are many stands selling all the normal Brazilian quick beach food. Very little shade.

This is a great day trip, use good hiking shoes, the full trail goes by 7 beaches. There's not much for sale along the way so go prepared. The beaches in the middle of the trail are beautiful and had very few people. The hike is medium challenge, small children or people not in shape could be challenged.

This is a great day trip, use good hiking shoes, the full trail goes by 7 beaches. There's not much for sale along the way so go prepared. The beaches in the middle of the trail are beautiful and had very few people. The hike is medium challenge, small children or people not in shape could be challenged.
This is a fisherman's village quite charming and smallish. Off season is best. High season can be too crowded. The beach is calm. Can hire a boat to Ilha dos Couves, about 15 minutes away. Can go snorkeling there but once again can be too crowded in january and big holidays.

Shopping
Paraty offers some historic sites, a yearly book fair, interesting shops, and best of all schooner day trips. I've gone twice and thoroughly enjoyed the day on the boat which stops in several beaches. Good swimming, fun boat trip
