Sightseeing

Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica is definitely the must-see spot in Poreč. This basilica's earliest parts date back to the 4th century, where today's basilica shows Byzantine culture in the Mediterranean. You will be impressed by the various mosaics of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and you'll be able to climb a 16th century bell tower, which offers great views of the city.

If you’re looking to get out of the heat and into the depth of Istria’s soil, then look no further than Baredine Cave. Located only 5 km from the coast, this cave goes down 132 meters! As a visitor, you’ll descend some 60 meters at a temperature of chilly 14 degrees Celsius. You might even see an animal or two at the bottom. 😊 Guided tours usually start every 30 minutes with a guide (included in price) in following languages: Croatian, Italian, German, English, Russian (with prior announcement Slovenian and French are available).

Food scene

The renowned vegan restaurant you’ll be glad you went to visit! Awesome food, great staff and fair prices set this place apart, especially within the vegan food scene. You can also order takeout, but you need to go pick it up. Definitely a recommendation! 👌 P.S. If you don’t know what to order, you could try the ‘Vegeplate for 2’. 😊

A rustically-made local restaurant that we recommend to anyone wanting to get away from the mainstream, tourist places and experience the local kitchen in a local setting. Due to the great food and limited seating, make sure to book a table in advance and be prepared for some waiting times, even outside the high-season. However, we're sure the wait's going to be worth it once you taste the food prepared here. We actually used to live in the village of Buići in the 1990s, so we definitely recommend visiting this small place to see Istria through our eyes.

Go for typical Balkan food - I recommend trying all the ‘burek’ types they offer, but especially the ‘šareni’ (colourful). It’s not in any colour, they just call it that. It actually has potatoes and meat - and it’s very tasty!

Experiences

Aquacolors Poreč is a huge water park very close to the city of Poreč and it's one of the largest water parks in the country, along with Istralandia which is located just a few kilometers away. We recommend visiting any of the two aquaparks for anyone who wants to have a fun whole-day experience with a group of people or a family.

This is simply a beautiful piece of the Croatian coast, suited for anyone. You can basically park your vehicle in the forest shade and go for a swim, play in nearby seaparks, snorkel or simply chill on the beach, either in the sun or in shade. We love this place as it's not crowded and you have the possibility of truly enjoying your days. We do recommend having some sea footwear as entrances to the sea can be stony, which is not so enjoyable on bare feet. We love both the Zelena (Green) and Plava (Blue) Laguna beaches in Poreč, so make sure to check both out!

Even though Poreč is a family-oriented city, this place is suited for the adventurous types, as a go to place for going out clubbing. Try it, it’s a cool setting in the centre of the city and a recommendation from me! 🤘😎

Motodrom Poreč is a go-kart racing track for racing lovers of any age and it's one of our personal favorites. You will love feeling the slight adrenaline rush when racing with your family or friends. For those of a calmer spirit, there's a café overlooking the racing track as well as a kids' racing course.
