The Venetian city of Chania is only 20 minutes drive from the villa or just take one of the many buses from the village which run regularly through the day and evening just a 5 minute walk away...It is such a beautiful city with cobbled streets and every type of taverna and restaurant; two harbours where you can simply have a drink or coffee to unwind. There is every kind of retail shopping in the main town which leads to the old city harbour including a massive undercover market with local cheese and mouth watering olives and of course local merchandise. Musuems and places to pamper your body or just sit in a horse drawn carriage and take a relaxing tour of all the main sites.. There is always something different to see and great for all the family with ice cream parlours to cool down on the hot days of summer. You can book a boat trip or mini cruises from the main harbour for a perfect day out.

Less than 15 minutes another secret gem.. wonderful food and a tranquil sandy beach again miles and miles with sunbeds and hammocks beach service is excellent but low key so totally relaxing

This is a hidden gem and only 10 minutes from the villa; there is a taverna open to all who visit the amazing rocky cove but the secret small water pool is easy access to cool off and then if you are lucky lie in one of the beach hammocks under the trees

This is the second local town close to the house; it is 5 minutes on the bus or by car and is a fishing harbour with great selection of tavernas facing the sea; post office; bank and large supermarket among the many smaller shops offering all your needs

Kissamos is a 20 minute drive and again has a sandy beach area with lots of tavernas.. Plaka beach is the quieter end and very shallow water with sandy beach... The town has lots of back streets and a central square for having that essential coffee or glass of wine.. larger supermarkets and smaller ones give a wide selection of fresh vegetables and organic produce too. The 11 Brothers is a wonderful butchers and you can get fillet steak but you have to ask for it! They also have aged meats and a good selection for barbecues
