Sightseeing

If it’s warm out, the Pueblo Reservoir is the place to be. It’s kind of a trip to find so much water surrounded by high desert mesa, but that’s modern engineering for you! It’s a State Park so there is a day fee if you don’t have an annual membership. The beaches are rocky and a touch steep. We recommend getting some sort of floating device and launching into the crystal clear, high country runoff

Just 30 miles south is Buelah and the Pueblo Mountain Park. I’m a sucker for the 1920’s camp lodges. The drive to the park is chock full of them, and the park’s lodge is on the national historic register for good reason. Read about public/private landscape architecture began HERE :) https://www.pueblo.us/Facilities/Facility/Details/Pueblo-Mountain-Park-64

Salida is one of our favorite day trips. A charming mining town on the Arkansas River with a heavy festival schedule, world-class kayaking and mountain biking of all levels. https://salidachamber.org/first-timers-guide/

In a similar vein of firsts, Lake Isabel is the birthplace of national campgrounds. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1920’s, tucked up against the pines it’s sweet and charming. One of our favorite places to go for a paddle on the SUP or float.

On the south side of the Springs is The Ivywild. It’s an old school that’s been converted to many things hipster: A brewpub, good coffee, cute shops, etc. . It isn’t huge but could make for a very nice few hours of browsing and eating. http://ivywildschool.com

The Broadmoor hotel on the south side of Colorado Springs is one of the country’s Grande Dame hotels - so many photo ops! The Golden Bee restaurant is a landmark. It’s an Irish Pub concept and is best when there’s singing. Be sure to check on timing and availability. https://www.broadmoor.com/
