At the bottom of Cotham Brow, you will find what is locally known as 'The Arches'. This is the railway bridge coming from Montepelier station, which crosses Gloucester Road. Gloucester Road is known for having the most independent shops of any street in the country. As well as great shopping, there is a plethora of cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars. These are some favourites: Bootlegger: late opening cocktail bar with DJ or live music. An older crowd rather than students. Filthy Thirteen: cosy cocktail bar near The Arches. La Guingette: authentic French restaurant/cafe run by a lovely French couple. The Coconut Tree: tasty and reasonably priced Sri Lankan street food. Spicer and Cole: good for coffee or lunch, and a popular cafe to work in. The Dough Kitchen: top choice for pizza on Gloucester Road. Bombolini: delicious Italian restaurant and delicatessen. Only open for lunch. The Gallimaufry: gastropub with outdoor seating and live music. The Grace: pub with tapas style menu and lovely garden.
