Tervetuloa Etelä- Karjalaan! South-Karelia has something to offer for everybody! In the summer you can enjoy various open air theatres, festivals and restaurants & bars. During the winter you can hit the slopes, go cross country skiing or walk across the ice on beautiful Lake Saimaa. There are also plenty of historical sights, museums, wonders of nature and activities for all ages.
Lappeenranta is a my hometown and I’d say itis the most beautiful city by the Lake Saimaa. There you’ll find historical sights, beautiful harbour, delicious food, theatre, cinemas, shopping centres and of course the famous Vety or Atomi; a delicious meat “dumpling” which you’ll find in the little huts sold in the harbour or in the market place.

This one of a kind statue park is less than 30 minutes drive away from the cottage. It is one of the most bizarre and stunning places I have ever been to and it’s an absolute must if you are in the area.

Fancy a water slide or an outdoor jacuzzi. After sauna and swim you can eat delicious food or why not have one of the popular spa treatments.
Situated in Imatra which is aprox. 30 minutes drive from the cottage, you will find a place to splash about or to unwind.

This was a media hoax to put Ruokolahti on the map.This is why you’ll see a statue of a lion welcoming you when you drive to Ruokolahti.

Getting round
In Lappeenranta, you can walk everywhere. You can also hire a bike or even take the little train that regularly goes between the harbour and the centre of the city.
However, when you come and stay in my cottage, your best means of transport is a car. There are some local buses that go along the highway 6 either towards Simpele or towards Imatra. The bus stop is called Laikko and it is around 4km walk from the bus stop to the cottage.
The closest train station to the cottage is Simpele which is aprox. 15km away. The taxi to the cottage will cost around 20€.

Linnoitus - The Fortress
Cobbled streets, art exhibitions, stunning views over the city, delicious cake at Majurska and a beautiful Orthodox Church. A place not to miss! Linnoitus is located very close to the Lappeenranta harbour and can be reached by foot.
