A visit of a ballet piece or an opera should be a must if you are in Rijeka. Even if the productions are small and not very international... just to soak up the atmosphere of the architecture is amazing.

My favorite Bars & Restaurants
One of the best Wine-Bars in town with a great terrace in front of the National Theater! Lately they started to serve great breakfast and little dishes... Try the house prosecco! Delicious.

My favorite fish restaurant directly on the canal very near to Wine-Bar Zajc. I recommend having lunch there as they have a special lunch menue for a more decent price. In the evenings it can be a bit expensive, but always high quality food.

Another very good fish restaurant, unfortunately a bit outside of the city center, but worse the ride by bus or taxi. All kind of sea food, local fish, clams, mussels etc. for reasonable prices... on the menue you see the kilo price like on the market, so you pay the weight you had.

All kind of sea food, local fish, clams, mussels etc. for reasonable prices... on the menue you see the kilo price like on the market, so you pay the weight you had.
Good Austrian beer "Pivo" (Hirter) and "Gemišt" (local white wine mixed with sparkling water), the perfect drinks after coming back from the Rjećine valley. But also a nice spot for a morning coffee. In the evenings quite crowded by locals.

All the long of Šetalište XIII Divizije street you can find beautiful beaches starting with a dog beach very near to harbour, my preferred spot - the no name beach - just before Hotel Jadran, Slabićevo Beach, Balavica Beach, Glavanovo Beach and Pećine Beach with the great beach bar Pajol, hot spot for a young alternative crowd... nice music and good drinks! All this within max. 30 minutes walkway!

The MMSU was founded in 2017 and was the initiation of the changes Rijeka is experiencing because of "Rijeka 2020 European Capital for Culture". Even if, due to the pandemic in 2020/2021, most of the program was cancelled the city is changing towards more art & culture with new venues, not only the MMSU, but also because Palazzo Benčić, ExportDrvo, the Governor's Palace etc.
