Many who attend the Pratt Institute also call the area home. Open since 1887, the institute is now known for its art and design programs and its architecture school. While the green lawns and rose gardens are a public attraction for the summer months, the campus also houses year-round allures like elegant turn-of-the-century buildings and a rotating, campus-wide display of some 60 sculptures by leading artists. Pratt’s library also has a rich history as the first free library in New York City, though it has since been made private in 1941. Beyond the grounds, architecture, and history, Pratt also brings in a variety of lectures and programs open to the public.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard (the Yard) is a mission-driven industrial park that is a nationally acclaimed model of the viability and positive impact of modern, urban industrial development. The Yard is home to 450+ businesses employing more than 11,000 people and generating over $2.5 billion per year in economic impact for the city. Building on the Yard's history as the economic heart of Brooklyn, the 300-acre waterfront asset offers a critical pathway to the middle class for many New Yorkers. The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. BNYDC strives to provide an environment in which innovative companies can take root and grow. The Yard was once the nation's most storied naval shipbuilding facility, which for over 150 years built and launched America's most famous fighting ships, including the USS Maine, USS Arizona, and USS Missouri. The Yard also served as an important point of the passage, home, and workplace for countless veterans as they served our country. Through its public programming, the Yard continues to honor and preserve this rich history.

Food scene

Our favorite little breakfast place. It’s tucked away on Franklin street, you can either walk down Fulton or through the back streets. The coffee is the best in New York in our opinion and every item on the menu for breakfast is absolutely delicious.

Adorable deli and restaurant in the back. Beer from beer taps, great music, great vibe, great sandwiches. Food at the deli is a bit pricey but worth getting some good bread and cheese and hopping over to a park with your goodies.

Find both the best of modern Brooklyn neighborhood dining conventions and genuinely inspired Middle Eastern food at Miss Ada, a Fort Greene restaurant from Israel-born chef and owner Tomer Blechman. Start with an order of fluffy pita bread and a selection of shareable plates, like its fall-apart short rib skewers, housemade labne, or a deep bowl of hummus topped with lamb shawarma. The glorious whipped ricotta, topped with butter, sage, and honey, is non-negotiable.

Pizza” might be in in the name of the restaurant group, but this Clinton Hill restaurant is as famed for its thick-cut burgers as its wood-fired pies. Its legendary Emmy Burger, named after co-founder Emilly Hyland, comes topped with aged cheddar and caramelized onion on a pretzel bun for a rich, only-here flavor combination. We should probably mention that it costs $31, but this special occasion burger is worth trying at least once

While Sisters has a robust food program (a killer veggie burger, for one), it’s most ideal for a cocktail date when you just want to split a little something-something together. No matter if you’re there for brunch or late-night hangs, the high, sky-lit ceilings — dripping with plants and warm globe lights — make the room feel grand-yet-warm at all times of day.

Locanda Vini e Olii is nestled in a century-old corner drugstore amid the cozy old-world brownstones. This Northern Italian, Michelin-star restaurant is a fantastic spot for a late lunch or dinner. Try the house-made pasta, chicken liver, totelli, or the rabbit ragu. If you are thirsty, there are too many Negroni options to count. If you’re in Clinton Hill, craving incredible Italian food, and have a little cash to spend, this place is a must

The sister restaurant to Williamsburg’s Walter Foods has its own North Brooklyn edge -- dark, repurposed wood, a carefully curated cocktail menu, and a reliably well-dressed twenty-something crowd. Equally popular for towering, eggy brunch plates, and evening oyster-martini pairings, it’s an all-occasion sort of spot. From 9am, until well after midnight, bow-tied waiters ferry plates of French toast studded with caramelized banana, raw bar bites, and hefty portions of tender wagyu beef arranged on fresh baguette.

One of our favorites! Chef-owner Greg Baxtrom’s Prospect Heights hot spot serves ambitious, experimental small plates like a carrot crepe with little neck clams and a Nashville hot soft-shell crab sandwich. Most plates fall under $25, including a $14 breakfast burger made with raclette. Olmsted’s whimsical backyard garden with benches lining the perimeter draws crowds for snacks, cocktails, wine, and desserts, and is a charming place to wait before being seated for brunch on the weekends, including on Friday. Reservations recommended. Baxtrom also recently opened a chic skewer-focused restaurant across the street called Maison Yaki.

Theatre and Music

For an experience in the performing arts, the Brooklyn Academy of Music has three different locations in the Clinton Hill area, hosting entertainment of all varieties. The Peter Jay Sharp building is place of history, with its grand opera house and concert hall now subdivided into several movie theaters. The building also houses the BAM Café, which was once an ornate upstairs ballroom. While the building has been renovated for modern entertainment, much of the original details have been preserved. The BAM Harvey Theater is the second location with another rich history.
Definitely try see a show here when you visit. They have an excellent selection.
