The downhill route of this gorge is spectacular, the view is even better than Samaria gorge. It is a deeply carved canyon with many different plants and flowers. In the early morning you have a breathtaking view, you can even see the sea far away.
Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 26 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking. The trail is open all year-round and is worth visiting anytime.

FORTRESS MELISSA
The Melissa fortress in near the settlement of Agios Thomas, on the top of a hill with a magnificent 360 view.
It is one of the largest fortifications of the inland and was built in the 2nd Byzantine era.
You can visit it by driving in a trail in the west of the fortification. The small settlement of Melissa was built there, but today it is not preserved. The winepresses of the fortress are also preserved about 100 meters in the south. It is naturally guarded by a cliff in the east.
The church of Zoodochos Pigi is also in the same area.
