Sightseeing

"The Incline" is a must-do hike while visiting Colorado Springs! The hike features 2,768 steps straight up the side of the front range of the Rockies. At the top you will be treated to a panoramic view of Colorado Springs and the surrounding mountains. This hike is not for the faint of heart and is difficult, especially considering the high altitude. So bring plenty of water and take your time! Lastly, at the top you can turn left and take the winding Barr trail back to The Incline's base camp. This will help save your knees on the way down! Goodluck! *A few notes to accomplish this hike* 1. You will need to make a reservation at the following website: https://cityofcoloradosprings.aluvii.com/store/shop/productdetails?id=1&productId=1 It is a free reservation and this system is mainly in place as a COVID precaution to prevent too many people on the hike at once. 2. Recommend parking at the Hiawatha Parking lot and taking the free shuttle (comes about every 20 mins) to the base camp. The lot is a dollar an hour. For a casual hiker we recommend paying for 4-5 hours to accomplish the entire hike. 3. Masks are currently required to ride the bus.

Garden of the Gods is Colorado Springs best known attraction. The park features sweeping red rock formations that tower over the casual hiker. This park is great for photo's and for seeing local wildlife. The trails are well marked and are relatively flat, so even the most inexperienced hiker can tackle it! Additionally, the park's "Overlook" is just a few hundred yards from the entrance to this very BnB so please, take a walk and check out this awesome sight during your stay!

This winding canyon road leads to several base camps for various hikes in Colorado Springs to include, The Seven Bridges, Mt Muscoco, St. Mary's Falls (pretty lame waterfall honestly), Loud's Cabin, and Helen Hunt Falls. Of these trails I think Seven Bridges is the most interesting and scenic and Loud's Cabin is along the same trail, just a little further. If you're not into hiking, this drive up the canyon is worth the trip! Its a very scenic windy road that is just a short 20 min drive from the BnB!

Pikes Peak Cog Railway is one of the few local attractions that we have not been able to personally experience yet. However we have hiked Pikes Peak, and the views are spectacular! Climbing a 14'er especially from the base of the incline is a pain in the butt, why not bypass it all in style with this cute little rail car? With that being said there is currently a facility that is under construction at the peak. We are not sure when this will be complete, so you will be dealing with construction noise/smells. But once again this is balanced out by amazing views that are normally hard earned through hours of hiking =)

This park is lesser known than Garden of the Gods, however it also features sweeping red rock formations and trails that are fairly easy to hike! Because it is lesser known we prefer this park because it is often less crowded. Also the park is just south of this BnB, but it is on the other side of a busy highway, so we recommend driving to the parking lot even though it is a few hundred yards away as well!

About an hour from the BnB this Wolf Sanctuary is a great place to see some live wolves up close as well as get a walking tour through the facility where you will be instructed on the importance of reintroducing wolves into the natural eco system after our ancestors nearly hunted them to extinction! For an extra fee you can even get some up close pictures with some fully grown wolves!

Do you like sand? Sad that you didn't do your vacation in the Bahamas and are stuck in Colorado Mountain Territory? Then this sight is for you!! Seriously though the Dunes are impressive and are fun to hike! It's strange but every time you summit one dune thinking you've reached the peak there is another dune off in the distance that is even higher. This attraction is about 3 hours away so not necessarily local, but might be worth your time if your up for a drive!

The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), is one of the nations premier military institutions. We aren't sure if the base is currently open to the public with COVID restrictions, but if you are able to make it on base we highly recommend walking the grounds that are open to the public. The visitors center is great and the Chapel (currently under renovation) is inspired!

If you are looking to see some local artists featured then I highly recommend the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. It's a comparatively small art gallery but you can easily spend a couple hours here!

City/town information

Manitou Springs is a small downtown area tucked away in a semi secluded mountain setting with a small river running parallel to it. The downtown features small art galleries, cafes, bars, restaurants, an old school arcade, and natural springs that periodically surge with mineral water!
