Food Scene

You can order just a coffee drink or an inexpensive lunch or dinner and sit there almost as long as you wish. There's an excellent privately-owned book store called Kepler's next door. The train station and bus stop are right there as well.

Coffee drinks are very good and cost about the same everywhere. This place has exceptional French pastries, not cheap so share with a companion! Delightful atmosphere!

Shopping

You can go out to the beaches or just stroll around downtown Half Moon Bay. Sunny, non-foggy days are best. Lots of small restaurants and shops. The shops close around 5-5:30pm but the restaurants stay open til about 9pm.

Leave your credit card at home. Very high-end stores but there are some nice restaurants and even a Starbucks and a McDonald's. Something for everyone! Great brunch at Terrain (next to Anthropologie).

Drinks & Nightlife

This is actually a restaurant but it has a nice, small, friendly bar inside and when the weather is nice you can sit outside, have a drink or meal, and people watch. Happy Hour: 3-6:30pm and after 9pm. Close: Sun-Thurs. 10pm, Fri-Sat 11pm. This is the only place which stays open late in sleepy Menlo Park, but this is why we live here. For more late-night action, go to downtown Palo Alto.

Everything Else

This is more of a girly place, maybe not so interesting for men. There is a lunch-room, cute little shops (Italian jeweler, art galleries, gift shops), a beautiful rose garden, but for you guys...there is a carpenter/woodsmith in the back.
