This is one of our favorite places on the Olympic Peninsula. If you have time on the way to or from Forks, stop off in Port Angeles and drive up to the Hurricane Ridge visitor center at 6,000 feet elevation. The views alone are worth the climb, but if you're lucky you'll get to see a black bear. The visitor center has a modest snack bar to include coffee and hot chocolate, souvenirs and seating indoors to warm up. Winter activities up top include some light skiing, sledding, snow shoe trails. The National Park does an excellent job keeping the road clear and safe for car travel but sometimes snow tires will be required, sometimes the road will be closed all together or the parking lot will be full so always check the status of the road before you go.

When heading to La Push you will have your choice of several stunning beaches to visit. Head north on 101 and just shortly after leaving town you'll turn right on La Push road. The first beach you will come up to is Beach 3, park and hike 1.6 miles on a mostly flat trail down to the beach. Further down La Push Road is parking for Beach 2, this is a favorite beach among the locals, hike 1/2 a mile down mostly stairs to the beach. Further down La Push Road is beach 1 where you are able to park right at the beach. In April and May you can see gray whales that come close to the beach and role around in the waves to clean their bodies.

Rialto Beach is just around the corner from Beach 1, it a beach full of rocks and huge logs that have washed ashore. Walk a 1/2 a mile down the beach to hole in the wall. If you catch the sunset at the right time of the year you might get to see the sun setting right through the view of the hole.

The Hoh Rain Forest receives more rain than anywhere else in the continental United States. Our favorite short walk in the forest is the famous Hall of Mosses hike where moss hangs in glowing green sheets off the large branches of the old growth forest. It's a magical place!

Food scene

Sadly Forks doesn't have a local brewery, but this is the closest thing. Bundle up, sit outside and enjoy a Local Washington brew. The food menu is light bar food.
