The Food.... one of those places where a meal can surprise you with flavours you hadn't expected - one of the best spots around dinner. Not cheap, but worth the price.

Lance roasts his own coffee beans which are "real trade" - bought direct from the farmer with quality controls in place. Great place and good food and coffee - plus the best mountain bike shop in the region

Sightseeing

This cathedral has some of the best accoustics I have heard. for a classical concert it is amazing. Go when they are rehearsing for a chamber orchestra - or just go to one of the many choral or musical events they hold here. The building and grounds are lovely too....-

Parks & Nature

From our place a short drive to the Flora Car Park (can be done in a 2WD - but much nicer in a 4wd!). From there the walks are beautiful through native bush with lovely views. Look for the native Blue Duck in the streams, enjoy the Fantails and South Island Robins alongside the path - relax, breathe deeply, this is a great place to be at peace. Walks range from 1.5 hours to 4-5 days....

I love this walk because it is so remote - and the fishing is great. Not easy mind.. but beautiful scenery and some good sized brown trout to be found. Watch for the black fly if it is cloudy though - take some good repellant!
