What a gem in the Eastern Free State. After a long drive from Potchestroom we were welcomed by our friendly hosts. We stayed in a charming, beautifully restored farmhouse dating back to 1880. The views from the house were incredible with the sun setting over the mountains. What a privilege to light a fire and enjoy a glass of wine in such a serene setting. We will certainly be back. This is the perfect midway stop over for a family or group (including dog) travelling between Joburg and the Eastern Cape. Celeste has gone out of her way to make the place quirky and memorable while at same time ensuring your comfort and safe surroundings. The stoep is a perfect place for an evening braai and to relax after a long drive. The huge interior has many interesting objects from past days while the 4 private bedrooms (2 en-suite) are large and comfortable. The road infrastructure along this route is in excellent condition for travel and passes through magnificent scenic locations. The historic town of Aliwal North with its rejuvenated hot spring spa is a 20 minute drive away. A must visit for the adventurous traveler!

Cameron, Chris and Karen were amazing hosts - very friendly, hospitable, warm and welcoming! The Bobotie we had which was made by Chris and the Brownsies for dessert made by Cameron was delicious. Overall, the accommodation was everything you needed for a stop over, highly recommend. 😃

It was my first time visiting Lesotho and I really wanna go back. The host and the family are warm and very welcoming people. The restaurant is very refreshing and the service is great. We were given options to choose a day tour which was the most beautiful experience. The prices are very reasonable for the tour,horse riding and hiking. The atmosphere is warm and people are so kind. If you are looking for a place to stay please do not hesitate to let them host you. It was such a beautiful experience

Lovely clean cottage with beautiful surroundings. Kathy provided us with a guide to walk up the mountain to a beautiful view overlooking the valley. Felt very safe.

My family and I stayed over for a night and left early the next morning. We were very happy with the stay. The solar lights were rgeat during the load shedding periods, and only the decrease in water during these times were hard to negociate

Great clean and practical place, you can see the host put a lot of effort into it. Felt very comfortable, quiet, private and had all we needed. Highly recommended. 😊

Smithfield is the perfect halfway stop for us from the Eastern Cape to North West. Elaine’s place was great for one night’s sleep. The toys were an extra advantage to keep the kids busy.
