The place you should definitely go when you come to Shimane is IZUMO GREAT SHRINE (IZUMO TAISHA). it is thoughts the oldest shrine in Japan. It is located in Izumo city, Shimane prefecture which is about one-hour west by train from Matsue and the area of 'Izumo' is considered a birthplace for gods. It is said that all gods from all over the country gather in Izumo in November, so people in other places call Novermber 'Kaminaduki' which means God is away. However, here in Izumo, it is called 'Kamiaritsuki' which means Gods are here. The festival to welcome Gods is held in Izumo on every November. You may see many young Japanese women here in Izumo. It's because Izumo Great Shrine is known as a god for good marrage and loves. They visit here to pray for their good future happiness. If you are lucky, you may be able to see the Japanese style wedding ceremony in the Shrine. You can see the large Shimenawa (strew festoon) in the main shrine bulding, which is the symbol of Izumo Great Shrine. It has the meaning of separating the world of God from the human. 13meter length and weighting about 5 tons, it is the largest in Japan. Nearby Izumo Great Shrine, there are a number of mysterious power spots such as 'Inasa no Hama' and 'Inochi Nushi no Yashiro’. Once you are there, you should be fascinated by the wonder and its sacred atmosphere. 島根に来たら必ず足を伸ばしたい場所は出雲大社です。島根県出雲市は、松江からは電車で西に約１時間ほどのところです。 島根が昔から神々の国と言われるのはこの出雲大社が大きく関わっています。出雲大社は日本で最古の神社と考えられており、また、旧暦10月（現11月）には全国から全ての神様が出雲地域に集結すると言われています。そのため、他の土地では神様が留守になるので神無月といいますが、ここ出雲では神在月と呼びます。そしてその時に全国から神様をお迎えするために開かれる神迎祭も見所です。また、運が良ければ、神前式の結婚式の様子を見ることができるかもしれません。 本殿では出雲大社のシンボルとも言える大きなしめ縄（これは神の世界と人間界を分ける意味を持っていると考えられています）を見ることができます。出雲大社のしめ縄は日本最大で、１３メートル、重さ約５トンにも上り、その大きさに圧倒されるはずです。 - 55mins by car from Manabi-stay Matsue - about 1 hour from Shinjiko Onsen station - about 1hour and 20mins from Matsue station by train

縁結びと言えば出雲大社。ここは恋愛だけでなく様々な“良いご縁”をたぐりよせる神社です。 旧暦10月10日から17日まで、出雲大社では全国から神々をお迎えして、神迎神事、神在祭などが執り行われます。 春には荘厳な雰囲気に包まれる神苑の桜もお見事です。
