This is the quintessential American diner. It's been run by the same family since it opened in 1935, right on Market St. where the Castro meets the Mission. Your waitress could be the founder's daughter, Sheila. Their hours are 8 am to 3 pm and 8 pm to 3 am. The strawberry raspberry waffles are da bomb.

Diner (OPEN until 3AM!). Not the best food in the world, but great cozy feel - typical old-school diner. It has been here for 80 years, so lots of street cred. 1 minute walk.

For something a little different, this coffee shop puts you back in the '50s with its music, ambiance and old-school charm. Grab a milkshake or pancakes. Personally, I'm partial to the avocado and mushroom LT on rye
