Take a tiny walk on ferry over for the day and pack a picnic! I can't say enough about the hiking trails and look outs. One of the jewels of Nanaimo!

Newcastle Island (Saysutshun) is an absolutely fabulous island to check-out for so many reasons! A quick 15 minute passenger-ferry ride from Nanaimo's waterfront bring you to this island that is alive with its First Nations heritage. The beaches that surround this island are each beautiful, the restaurant serves awesome clam chowder and other meals, along with lots of ice cream. This island is always very quiet and restful. A gorgeous spot to pass a day (or just an afternoon).

Pack up a picnic lunch and bring some cash for the foot ferry- man to take you away. Newcastle Island also known as "Saysutshun" offers a spa-like peaceful setting where people historically flocked for rejuvenation. The highlight is the white sandy beach at Kanaka Bay, where you can soak up the imperative minerals of the ocean.
