The most bohemian suburb in Lisbon's city center. Streets full of bars, discos, pubs and restaurants. The restaurants kitchen close by 3 pm and reopen by 7 pm most of the times and close again around 11.30 pm and bars close at 2 am.
Bairro Alto nightlife is a true cosmos and a real melting pot. There's everything, from LGBT+ friendly bars with drag performances and RuPaul's Drag Race screenings to hardcore rock dens and more conservative Fado restaurants. Well worth a visit.
In some of Lisbon’s oldest and most traditional neighbourhoods, you’ll find a nightlife and festive spirit that you’ll find hard to believe in the centre of the city. The streets fill with people of all ages who come to catch up, have a drink, watch the people passing by and discover all the many new things there are to be found.
You should visit during the day and then again at night for a completely different experience. During the day, you can check out the fashionable shops alongside the traditional ones (my favourite handmade hat shop is in Rua da Rosa!) that have been there for generations. There's also cool coffee/tea houses where famous writers used to spend their time. At night, it's a maze of little bars and fado houses. You can get cheap wine, beer or cocktails, served in plastic cups so you can take them out to the street and hang out with the rest of the crowd (the dress code is casual and comfortable).
