The most visited town in France per head of population, Sarlat baffles visitors with its outstanding beauty. The centre of the town contains multiple winding lanes laced with beautiful touristy shops and local galleries. Sarlat boasts a wide range of eateries; remember to take a walk out of the main squares for quality food and better value for money. The summer season sees a range of outdoor events, live music and open-air plays. There is also an unmissable weekly market, get there early to find a parking space. The drive to Sarlat itself is spectacular. The road hugs the river Dordogne and passes through several untouched villages including Saint Julien-de-Lampon (recommended for a coffee stop) just outside of which there is a campsite where visitors line the river to swim and relax in the sun.

Stunning medieval town not to be missed. Must see in the day when the market is on, Wednesday morning & Saturday all day and in the evening when the gas lights send a warm glow across the stone buildings and the town comes alive.

Sarlat is very popular - so parking can be difficult. Suggest parking up near cemetery and walking down into town

Sarlat _ a beautiful medieval town and one of the most representative of 14th century France. It's great to go on Market Day and revel in the buzz of local shopping, eating and drinking. Well worth a day out!
