If you want to see what California looked like before it was developed then you have to see Jalama beach. It's an hour and a half drive up the coast but the windy road through untouched California hillsides make the drive worth it. Amazing waves for the more advanced surfer can be found here but it can be quite windy so check the conditions before you commit to a day trip. There's no cell service for the last 30 min or so of the drive but once you reach the campground there is wifi available. Be sure to get a Jalama burger at the general store. They are legendary!

Jalama Beach County Park is a gorgeous 40 minute drive from Solvang , California. On the way along Jalama Road, you’ll see working ranches, vineyards, and hillside vistas around every bend, culminating in a rugged Central Coast overlook, before heading down to the beach.
