The more peaceful of the two bays, North Bay promenade spans from the headland to the Sealife Centre. Lined with pretty and well maintained beach huts (which can be hired from the main offices in the large modern building) the promenade makes a pleasant stroll even on the busier days. The beach itself is a popular swimming and surfing area. Head to the Castle end for a quieter area.

A beautifully designed park with some hidden gems. You can take a dragon themed paddle boat around the lake, walk up to the oriental garden at the top of the island or explore the peaceful glen areas. The park is a 20 minute walk from our house and can be part of your route to North Bay.

Food Scene

There are some great places to eat in Scarborough and new places opening all the time. It's hard to choose between the fish and chip places available on the seafront. We've featured the Fishpan here but if they're full we would also recommend the Lifeboat or the Anchor.
Good pub food and local ales, one of our favourites for a chilled out drink or dinner.

Best Chinese in Scarborough (in our opinion). Park using a disc on North Marine Road or there's a pay and display carpark opposite.

If you want some great fish and chips away from the hustle and bustle of the front then this is a personal favourite! Long established and mega friendly, a proper traditional chippy.

Whilst the decor may be a little eccentric the fish and chips are great. See if you can get a window seat upstairs.

Arguably the best ice cream on South Bay (sorry Harbour Bar fans). For a real treat - try a "creation"

Walks/Rides

Enjoy a walk/ride along the old railway line from Scarborough to Whitby. Why not stop at the Hayburn Wyke for a tasty lunch on your way. The start of the Cinder Track is just a 10 minute walk from our house down Woodland Ravine.

Within in walking distance from the annex, a lovely walk around the fishing ponds which, if you continue in the same direction, leads to Forge Valley.

Take a morning or afternoon to explore Bempton cliffs. In June/July you can see thousands of seabirds, including puffins, nesting on the cliffs.

Full of craft shops, pretty houses and a couple of good pubs Robin Hood's Bay is focused around the pedestrian only path down to the beach. Don't be tempted to try driving down (it's not allowed but some try anyway!), park at the top and be prepared for the steep walk down and back up.

A lovely, if steep, walk down to the rocky outcrop where seals congregate in their hundreds. In summer your likely to see pups lounging in the sun whilst their parents go fishing just off the shore. Please don't get to close, respect the seals' space.

With a number of different trails Dalby is a must do for any keen mountain biker. If it's looking busy around the visitors centre, keep driving through the forest up to the quieter carpark (and picnic field) in Adderstone Field, near the Dalby Activity Centre. For those more keen on walking there's some lovely routes through the valley.

Parking in Scarborough

Parking nearer to the front is pay and display. I’d recommend parking on headland (below the castle) as there is usually more space available. Avoid the carpart behind the Lifeboat chippy on Eastborough (very small spaces). For parking nearer to town you may be able to utilise the disc zones. These are identifiable by the signs, which show the time available. A parking disc is available for use in the drawers. Please return this for the next guest to use.

Buses

From the Garden Annex: The nearest bus stop is at the hospital (turn right out of the driveway). The number 10 runs regularly into town, every 30mins from 07:15-18:45 (Sundays 09:15-18:15). Please be aware that the last bus to return from Westborough leaves at 18:34. A number of other buses, including the X93 to Whitby, leave from the old hospital entrance on Scalby Road.
