Pack up a picnic for this awesome drive (on paved road) through the dunes, follow the road until you hit a small parking lot. You'll drive through Guadalupe on your way, we highly recommend a stop at one of the multiple Mexican restaurants down there (El Tapatio, La Simpatia, La Pasadita).
South of Guadalupe, CA lies an extraordinary and unique nature preserve. Featuring towering 550 foot high dunes-the tallest on the west coast-and the Santa Maria River Estuary, not only is this park beautiful but it is also ecologically significant. AKA Main Street Beach or Guadalupe Beach, Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve is a great place to surf, fish, hike, take photos, view wildlife, and simply enjoy nature. Please note that the surf can be very dangerous at this location. Part of the Dunes are closed between March 1st and October 1st for the protection of the western snowy plover’s breeding and nesting habitat.
