Casa Milà (popularly known as La Pedrera, ‘the stone quarry’) is a daring example of Gaudí’s use of stone. You haven't seen stone like it. When La Pedrera, his last civic project, was first commissioned in 1906, the building became a laughing stock for its undulating façade, wrought-iron balconies and vast windows. Today, of course, it’s viewed quite differently, and Gaudí’s innovative, self-supporting stone exterior has won it a spot on Unesco’s World Heritage Site list.
