This place has some great Ethiopian food and a fun hidden upstairs beer bar for that's your thing.

One of many authentic (and delicious) Ethiopian restaurants typical of West Philly. Also typical? an exclusive attached bar featuring live music and a hip/artsy crowd.

Ethiopian, with a semi-secret bar upstairs with 130 beers and 60+ whiskeys.

The chair cushions are worn through, the floor sags, and the service is leisurely, but it all adds to the comfortable charm at Abyssinia, where locals know they can find some of the best Ethiopian food in Philly. The stew-like dishes — including several vegetarian and vegan options — are scooped up with perfectly thin, spongy, slightly sour injera bread, used in place of utensils. Up a narrow staircase from the dining room is Fiume, a thimble-sized dive bar with an enviable whiskey list.

Technically, this is an award-winning Ethiopian Restaurant and not a music venue, but upstairs there is a tiny bar that often has fantastic live music. Stop by and see what's happening!
