The first London County Council social housing scheme, this charming group of Arts & Crafts buildings is clustered around a circus with bandstand. It replaced a notorious slum known as The Old Nichol Rookery. The “evil” reputation of the Old Nichol owed a lot to Arthur Morrison’s fictionalised account of it in A Child of the Jago.
